Backflipboy Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 I emailed Smooth to ask that exact question and was told that they will not be making it available via listen again
Russ Vickers Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 (edited) The first 2 hours was the usual boring same old, same old with the smashy & nicey of Northern Soul (there goes my set at the Biggest Northern Soul Allnighter in the World  ) Number two was Frank Wilson & number one was Dobie Gray, so that should give you some idea. I only listen to the first few of the 'current' Nighter spins of today as my internet connection went tits up, but the first couple were Janice, Joy Lovejoy & Nolan Porter.....All tracks voted for by the listeners, god only knows who they were cos some of the comments which accompanied the choices were comical to say the least........first 2 hours a total cheese fest, about as far away from a contemporary Northern/Rare Soul Scene as you could get......I only hope non of my non soul mates accidently came across this as I would have to commit some kind of Hari Kari to avoid the embarrassment, after 3 - 1,2,3 'On Her Way To Work One Morning................. . I would be very intersted to hear what was played in the last 2 hours, as you would hope things would have improved, not holding my breath though judging by the first three choices. Guest Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Don't we have a radio section to plug this type of stuff ?
Guest Brian Ellis Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 (edited) Russ - I listened to it all the way through and totally agree with your assessment of the first 2 hours - total wall-to-wall oldies, that whilst they might have their place in the history of the scene, I for one have heard them too many times - just pick up any number of compilation oldies CD and there you have them all. The next 2 hours, just more of the same really, but the slight difference being that one or two of them if played out wouldn't cause too much 'offence', there was nothing that did much for me. RS and KR seemed well off the pace in terms of what's really being played out today. By the end the red wine had kicked in numbing most of the 'pain', but after the last of the second 2 hour's top 20 they each played 2 records that they'd each chosen - and they were very much better - problem is the red wine caused temporary amnesia - so can't remember what they were - perhaps someone can recall them? Can't remember other two as I was half asleep at time. Yes - they were 2 of the 4; seriously streets apart from the virtual 100% run-of-the-mill stuff during the previous 4 hours

Russ Vickers Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 As I thought a totally missed opportunity, not one track in that lot that truly represents what is being played at Nighters on a contemporary NS Scene, no wonder folk get the wrong impression......oh well it was to be expected really. Thanks for posting Brian. Best Russ

Thanks for posting Brian. Best Russ Just don't understand, as both of them are still 'out and about', so why would they list that lot as current sounds? You could go back 15 years or more and the list would still not be representative. As you say Russ, totally wasted opportunity.
Louise Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 (edited) Playlists like that makes you thank your lucky stars we've got great TV programmes like Big Brother. Dave Edited September 3, 2011 by Louise
