Mel Britt.

your on your own dude....

Not easy this, as you have to extract records you may not like that much, that actually are quite good, from ones which are musically BAD, and of course I hate them, so here goes....

deffo Joey Delorenzo, dreadful record,

some others that are very expensive but crap:

Jerry Walker — Mr Limp, LIMP in deed......

Ted Wilson both sides, utter crap... mans out of tune...!!

Scott English - You made a man of Me, dreadful vocal..Guys a Pub singer,

Righteous Brothers Band - Rat Race, WHY???

The Cammotions - Motown, really bad record. dont care what anybody says...

Romeo Rand - I'm Coming In, why anybody would pay the money this normally goes for is beyond me...worst record on the label..

Marva Jones - I Got Your Number (634 7589), is a truly awful track..that The Four Vandals aint much better..

Angelenos - (Down In) East L.A - nah...

The Magicians - (Just A Little) Faith And Understanding, this vocal is really bad.. Inst is I'm sure you will agree brilliant...

Zu Zu Blues band - Zu Zu Man, Crap... beyond me.. much like Wombat - I'm Gettin' On Life, contrived, and dreadful drums...and folk pay good money for both discs..

Tom Storm & The Peps - That's The Way Love Is,  just so depressing, really depressing record..

Tobbie Bowe - I can feel him slipping away - God awful vocal, and people pay two/three times more for this that Mamie Lee???

I'm sure there are more....

thats it, I'd forgotten Joanne Touchstone — Walk softly, not surprising as her singing on this track is Truly awful, she sounds drunk to me...

Actually the backing track I really like.. while were at it, dunno about this one, Gwen Douglas - The Picture, there is something about it, but parts of it make we want to jump out the nearest window, thats bad isn't it..

Did anyone mention 'Night of the Wolf' by the Al Foster Band yet? I can't be arsed to go right through the thread(sorry). I played it to my girlfriend/partner and she lokked visibly pained. Why I bought it back in the 70's I'll never know, possibly because I had an indescriminate buying policy back then. The folly of youth.

Seem to remember you giving Wilton some sh*t about the music played there when Darrow Fletcher was on :g: , so does that mean your  sad like the Topic?? BTW I dislike any R&B (Gritty Northern , my ar*e) & anything that is constantly hammered & brings out the Bags,Vest & Giant Knickers brigade, Bobby Freeman I hate you.  :dash2:

Agree with most of those but not Rat Race, that is one hell of an instrumental, from my early days on the scene, this was like a bolt from the blue, what a stomper.

And Marva Jones is a nice record too.

I'm Sorry pal,I have, after some faffing re read what I wrote re the Darrow fletcher night & have "no" idea how you connect it with me saying "This topic is sad etc".

The topic is not just sad it,s very sad !!!!.I.M.O.????

There are loads of records I have heard far to much of but I put that down to my age & the fact that iv'e been into it since 1964, I would never say I dislke them as

they are part my youth.?

Sorry, so the line, "Not one of the Guy's playing the records looked at the dancefloor, they just put on B side after B side (O.k. not all)!! Regardless of the beat change", isn't relevant in the context of comments leading up to your quote? To me that appears to be a pop at the music, which was what was refered to i.e. One mans meat. As for being part of your Youth, so were the Archies & Middle of the Road but I bet you dislike them?? :g: Last night I heard my Mama singing a song, Ooh-Wee Chirpy Chirpy, Cheep Cheep.

I loved Sugar Sugar, especially when they played the Archies cartoon on Top Of The Pops.  Remember trying to buy it and every time we went, it was sold out, think I eventually got it though.

Think I might still have my dad's copy in the loft was a good cartoon though

The one that really does me in the Frankie and the Classicals "What Can I Do"- her voice is the equivalent of nails on a chalkboard for me. Also- "Moonlight Music In You" .

Can't agree, classic, tho' very dated 60's soul sides, don't ever hear them out anyway, so no point in slagging them off ?

Just looked through the thread again and I can't believe there's no reference to Lenny Gamble. They were playing it at the Casino one night and I said really loud 'sounds like Tony Blackburn', the look on peoples faces as the penny dropped was pure gold.

Just two (of many!) - Brian Hyland's "The Joker Went Wild" and  Charley Gracie's 'He'll Never Love You Like I Do'. Anybody asks me what northern soul sounds like I do not point them in the direction of these two so called 'records'.

I have to name it now though it surely will get me in trouble:

Lester Tipton "This won't change" - No voice (listen closely !), no melody, cheap production, plain terrible. Rare'n'Boring.

Why the heck is this record so extremely overpriced ?? Sorry... :hatsoff2:

Love the Charlie Gracie record.  The fact you spelt it Charley means you listened to it off a boot, if you hear it off a kosher copy it sounds great!

Wow! I can appreciate that he's not the greatest singer in the world, but the record has the storming Detroit backing track and the classic pause for the hand claps. This 45 has the impossible to describe "IT" factor that makes it a dance floor tour de force for me.

Thanks - I figured some guys here must see it my way.  :)

Well, Tipton absolutely CANNOT SING, can he ? Probably someone destroyed most of the copies because it came out so shitty - hence the damn rarity :g:

Well to be fair to him, he was a dancer not a singer, so it's not that bad an attempt really.

Ha ha guilty as charged Pete! I'll reserve judgment till I hear it properly then, but I'm not holding out much hope.
