Mickey i would never say that,i liked MR.M's especially enjoyed the Twins sets....superb oldies that i liked.

Was only in the record bar now and then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!True i was on the stage alot when richard was on.....just like all the other up and coming jocks....wanting to see the latest sounds that Richard had.....and he had so many to try and remember...wish i had a laptop computer then to note them all down,and make a copy or two!!

for me i went in mr ms soon as it opened straight up on the balcony as there was more room to dance there than downstairs my favorites were gentlemen and the ladies like her , high voltage country road and dean parish,s tell her never sounded better than through them speakers in there , the heat the high notes ringing in your ears especially when they had the upstairs sai speakers working , good times indeed

But it had a thumping beat and at 3am in m's it used to pack the floor

Me too,wasnt a regular there but did go quite a lot of times over the ,Brian Rae putting on Rubin Youve been away,,back in bad boy days I just had been,for liberating pharmacueticals from white metal cabinets.Great record,great times great buzzes.

Rarely ventured in there up to 78, too smoky and poky for my liking and always preferred what was on offer in the main room up to that point. Around 79-80, coinciding perhaps with Larry Houston/Top Cat and the like, I began to venture in there a lot more. Remember us all sitting on the counter of that bar at the back and talking bloody nonsense and the next thing you knew it was 6am. Stuff like Dottie Cambridge ' Cry Your Eyes Out', Moses Smith 'The Girl Across The Street', Marsha Gee 'Baby I Need You', Del Larks 'Job Opening' and Bob & Earl 'My Little Girl' come to mind.

Loved M's and spent most of the night in there when the flasher and weak spot and stuff like that started setting in in the main room.

Always went in the gents at the back of the room to get changed, much less of an ordeal than the main toilets down stairs, not paranoid or anything, honest!!!!!

Favourite instrumentals that were regular tunes in M's were Davis & Tyler - hold on help is on the way and The Dynatones - the fife piper.

Bill Cosby - little ole man, Soul Sisters - good time tonight, James Carr - that's what I want to know, Rex Garvin - sock it to'em JB, Williams & Watson - a quitter never wins, O'Jays - looky looky, Fantastic Johnny C - don't depend on me.... also got regular plays in M's.

first record every session in the early days of mr ms wade in the water, ramsey lewis, always first on,played by mike rolo. big sound for gall, one way out, vandellas, the soul twins brought their rarities to the party with stuff stuff like bari track,and ronnie and robin, the monitors share a little love was always played, kenny spence i think, gloria jones come go with me,also a weekly spin, as was bar b q mentioned earlier. as far as i know theres no t.v footage of mr ms in full flow. at times , usually about half an hour or so after it opened, the vibe was absolutely electric, the dance floor packed solid and always the place for the hardcore soulies,( along with the record bar obviously) i,m sure most of you know all this anyway, but for me that unbelievable atmosphere and energy that the northern scene is famed for was at it absolute zenith in mr ms the first couple of hours it was open . finishers for ms charles mann its all over and lainie hill time marches on .

Couple of my mates used to go up on the roof regularly for a cool down.

Know what you mean about knowing your place with the main men or "big time". I was the baby of our group as the lads I went with were all 3/4 years older than me, and I was stick thin and suffered from terminal acne.

Felt very intimidated first time I went to WC and too self conscious to get on the floor downstairs at first but I always felt more at home in M's right from the off.

Towards the end of my time there I was having big problems with paranoia and can remember on one occasion spending the whole night hiding in the bogs from some imaginary assailants! Didn't stop me going but it did stop me from being so greedy.

Always liked clocking the old school dancers in M's who were more footwork than summersaults.

Can understand some folks thinking it was all very tired musically but there was something cool about hearing those old familiar tunes in that environment.
