Prince George - Wrong Crowd

Hi all,

Does anyone know if Prince George - Wrong crowd was ever booted?

Just picked up a copy on D.P.G., Black with silver writing.

If it has been booted what are the differences please?

Hi...........I believe the originals are on vinyl and the labels are moulded on , the one you are showing is a boot

Not trying to hijack the thread but... does anyone know anything about the artist (real name), when the record was released or where the label was based? I've never had any luck with info on this one.

I don't know this record, but if it's the same label, DPG was virginia / leni guess related.

One of my all time favs - Ive never had an original of this and wasnt quick enough when Dave Thorley had one. Never comes up on Ebay - What would be the going price for an original? Its not a fashionable record but brilliant IMO!

I've never had an original either. Comes in that bracket of great funky Northern dancers that were around in 75-76, Skullsnaps, Rufus Wood etc

I sold my original to John Vincent in the late 90's for around £60. It's actually really damn rare and one of those records that you just never seem to find. Very popular in it's day and sounds better to my ears then a lot of the newer funky stuff but I would say that wouldn't I lol.....

I have been advised by a reliable source that the artist is actually 'Prince' or whatever name he goes under now?

Don't throw yer bottles at me, as I say I have been advised that it is, and the 'PG' in D.P.G. stands for 'Power Generation' as in 'New Power Generation' as in 'Prince & the NPG'?

What are your thoughts on that little gem then?

The D.P.G. stands for Deal, Perkins, Guess, they were the label owners.

Spot on Pete.Cliff Steele gave this a few spins earlier in the year at Lifeline,fitted in nicely.Knocks the "funk shouldn't be played" argument into touch.35 year old gem.

'Wrong Crowd' is an amazing record, I thought was first issued in 1970 rather than 1974.

Prince George was George Speller, not George Perkins (deceased).

Went to Lennis guess's studio on 35th street in 76 and the guy we talked to in the reception area played base (i think) on wrong crowd. Arthur Fenn will be able to correct me if wrong

I was lucky enough to get an original on here a couple of years ago (first one i'd ever had)

Always sounded great back in the day to me and it seems to fit today's scene perfectly.

In fact it would sound good on a number of scenes (Northern, 70's, Funk etc)

Think it's being given new cult status and not before time!

i would have said maybe 1971/72 and not 74..i cant believe i once bought this from pat brady around 20 years ago for £20 blind coz it was a `classic`... never really did it for me.might have kept hold of it but never realised it would be that rare

I know this thread is old. However Prince George is really George Speller. He worked for George Perkins for a period of time in exchange for a record production. He is mainly a song writer. He is alive and well and still living in Virginia. He's my husband. Also there were many bootleg copies of his record.

Excellent news Kim. Wrong Crowd was bootlegged and the original release is very hard to find. Great record back in the 70’s and very popular at Wigan Casino. Please give my regards to George.

Yes it was.  Needs close inspection to tell the difference.  The text is more 'raised' on the original I believe and has a little more lustre

Can we have a short Bio about George and his history please as that would be great and any photos would be superb :)

A copy turns up now and again on ebay. Not in great condition though. Pulled from sale more than once.
