Hi.

The next week I`m going to Toronto and Detroit. Might someone give me any information about record shops, clubs, or some interesting there??? Maybe Buffalo and Clevelando too.

Many thanks from Madrid.

Car City Records in St. Clair Shores on Harper and Melodies and Memories on Gratiot in Eastpointe are worth a visit.

I read on another message board that car city is closing down on September 30th

If you get fed up of looking for records  there's some things that I'd recommend you check out:-

People Mover - an overhead train that takes you around Downtown Detroit, it costs about 50 cents, and you can stay on as long as you like. That's a good way to see Downtown first and then you can decide where you want to jump off. Tigers Baseball Stadium is a good stop off as there is also the Lions Football Stadium across the road

Detroit Riverwalk - A walkway of about 4 miles taking you along the waterfront passing a combination of things from beautiful yachts, speedboats, music arena, parkland areas, Detroit folk fishing (who were so friendly that I wanted cry  ) the odd run down building (which all made for a great Detroit experience) to the new at the Renaissance Center. It is such a pretty walk especially on a lovely sunny day. I walked it on my own a couple of times, and it is very safe as they have patrolled security. Don't think I'd walk it at night time though  as in any big City really.

It goes without saying that, for me, you have to visit the Motown Museum, if only the once (though I've done it a few times  ) It may be a tad commercial, but the tingle you get when you're down in Studio A is simply awesome and well worth queuing up with the likes of Mr & Mrs Smith

Hope this info helps make your trip more enjoyable if you do decide to lift your nose from a record box :D

All the best

All good suggestions Ali

Also Detroit has some of the best art in the U.S. outside N.Y. and L.A.,

All of these are within a stones throw of each other, on or around Woodward Avenue

Detroit Institute of Arts Museum

Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit

Detroit Artists Market

Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History

Lastly if you have a car, take a drive up Woodward, from it's start in Downtown to Birmingham (A suburb city of greater Detroit, about 30 mins drive). You will pass stunning building, Fox Theater, The Whitney, Museums above, the gritty part of Detroit, The Original Ford plant in Highland Park, 50's style motels, Detroit Zoo arriving in swanky Birmingham. All aspects of Detroit in a 30 min drive. While doing this find Palmer Park/Woods which is directly off Woodward just below 8 mile, drive around and see some of the most amazing houses in the whole city.

Ali is right Detroit is an amazing city and worth some time spent NOT looking at records.
