Shinehead Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 (edited) Out of his many great tracks Lets Straighten It Out is doing for me at the moment , a wonderful artist. Edited August 7, 2011 by shinehead
Guest Dave Turner Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Out of his many great tracks Lets Straighten It Out is doing for me at the moment , a wonderful artist. Agreed, a wonderful artist. Up there in my all time top three and some days he's number one. IMO his more uptempo tracks are the his worst recordings, but that's me. Rightly known as one of the absolute greats.

Shinehead Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 'Lets straighten it out' OO. ATB Jim If theres anybody out there whos not aware of this great track, purchase the Sean Hampsey compiled cd Love And Jealousy which contains the track plus about 20 others in the same vein all for about 4 quid from Amazon amongs others.
Guest Dave Turner Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Must say i prefer Otis Clay's version of Nickel and a nail They're both great. I can listen to either without preference, depends if I'm havin' an Otis day or an OV day
mshoals Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 His five gospel 45s with the Sunset travelers on Peacock are also very nice: (The 5th is Peacock 1848 - Couldn't Hear Nobody Pray / You Are Blessed)
Guest sjay Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Good tune !! perhaps a tad to long imo Thats the album version , the 45 has a much shorter intro
Nickinstoke Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Here's an early one (his first solo?) And a few UK:
Guest Matt Male Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7ZNAtyv9_E Drop the first 47 secs and pitch up a touch. Love it. Doc You have your wish Chris, my copy has only a 17 second intro before the music kicks in and it's 3.55 long. Must be at least two versions.

Soulstrutter Posted January 25, 2020 Posted January 25, 2020 .... Have to say he's not one of my favourite artists (a lot of his material is a bit too raw. earthy, southern & bluesy for my taste but to each their own) .... What about his great version of Bobby Womack's - That's The Way I Fee About Cha From Bottom Line LP (only?) P.S. I notice this song was co-written by Joe Hicks (Don't It Make Me Feel Funky fame?) 1
Westender Posted January 26, 2020 Posted January 26, 2020 Memphis Soul par excellence. OV was one of the greats. 3
Seano Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 As an Apple fanboy I've always enjoyed this one, very happy when I got hold of the single, after encountering it on an LP compilation of his: 2
