Toodarnsoulful Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 No it's not a joke ha.. I have an Irish Pressing of the Tams - Take away / hey girl... on Probe.. Just wondering if anyone else has ever seen one as when i told a few Irish mates they were sure i was taking the piss but seriously, it's on probe and it has clearly written on it made in the Republic of Ireland ...Anyone? just think it was very random to press this record in IRELAND??

Most Irish releases were made in Ireland! Sometimes when there wasn't an irish version of the label it would come out on it's parent label e.g. I've seen UK Chess releases come out on Irish Pye.
Benji Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Would a irish Probe release be so unusual? I have it on german Probe, ties in with the UK Probe reissue ca. mid 70s. And if they released it over here in Krautsville why not in any other european country aswell? Wouldn't be surprised if it came out in France, Spain, Italy, etc. too
Toodarnsoulful Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 Just never seen one that's all, As the question asked was has anyone seen any other Irish copies of this one probe? not France Spain Italy etc. as we're all aware of these...
Liamgp Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I do have a few Irish Atlantic singles, mostly the well-known Stax stuff. Presumably The Commitments were buying the same records!!
Derek Pearson Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Oh please don't set me off again rambling on about Tami Lynn "I'm gonna run away from you" on Irish Polydor which I'm sure I've seen and handled many years ago. Late 1970's at least. Would love to see a label scan if anyone's got one..... Right that's it Derek - move away from the keyboard. Do not attempt to type anymor

Mick Holdsworth Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I thought the Tami Lynn was UK (there's one in popsike, but label is not high res enough to make out the finer details - could also be a fake too, don't know) A lot of sub labels of the UK majors had releases in Ireland using the major label design - I have Freda Payne on black Columbia (INV 502) - I also know that INV 501 (Give Me Just ...) also appeared on the same label. A couple of 70 "Apple" Beatles related releases also came out on black Parlophone in Ireland. I have one by George Harrison. Also London records in Ireland used the Silver Top design up till at least 1971/72 - I have a copy of Al Green / Let's Stay Together on silver top - looks fantastic. There must be loads more. Cheers Mick
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 (edited) ...er, I've got Frank Sinatra's 'That's Life' and 'Strangers In the Night' on Irish Pye (not 'Pye International') rather than on Reprise, as they were in most other countries. I'm pretty sure my 'Thank You John'/'Walking Up A One Way Street' is on Irish Atlantic, too, but I'm too knackered to climb the stairs and find out for sure. I certainly bought it in Dublin, that much I do know... Edited August 5, 2011 by TONY ROUNCE
bri pinch Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 once bort a sylvia...pillow talk with the excellent my thing on the flip, on irish silver top london 1973...looked a beauty...sadly it never turned up
John Benson Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 (edited) I've got an Irish copy of Al Green's "I'm still in love with you" - also on that Silver top logo.... somewhere.... Edited August 5, 2011 by John Benson

Denbo Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Heres a scan of the Polydor issue. It could be Irish but who really Knows ? Well, you beat me to it and saved me a scanning job at the weekend. Yes, that's how my 'Irish' Polydor copy of Tami Lynn looks. Bit annoying the way the title runs across the middle like that. Is this your copy or the one off Popsike?

Hi Denbo, Yes this is my copy, unfortunately it has lots of surface marks but does play through ok
Craig W Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 (edited) 3 Irish Pyes Why has Footsee got a production date of 1968 when it was actually produced in the 70's? Edited August 8, 2011 by craig W
Rob Wigley Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 I 've several Irish Motown mainly mainstream hits, but a nice Jnr Walker "What does it take" also some Phily Int. stuff as well, good novilty items but any major rarities ? Where's Sean Hampsey ..........?
dthedrug Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 (edited) You sure it's Irish Dave? Looks more like Canadian to me.... specially when it's printed along the bottom of the label Were you thinking of another record by chance? HI ALL ....JOHN you are right, infarct bang on, and i must apologies to the seller, i have read his advert and he clearly states, CANADIAN COPY. However it did give me the opportunity to write, about the start of my BLOCKEYE! Problem, and a lesson to all the youngsters "the STONER TOU GET, the DRUNKER YOU FEEL" Don't you think so? or can't you wan't to. and crucial is what's the matter for you? as I said to a Copper from the DS, when being searched, "constanoon aftable" he quickly stopped the search and told me to piss of, shame as he would have got me, if he had continued"?? Back to the PYE records that come out in Eire, this is I am sure what Andy Spencer (UK SOUL Collector 70s/80s) had, when he showed me a Jason Knight on blue PYE, I always assumed that his copy was a UK release, as the original was issued on the cusp of the change of color from red to blue. he must of had the a Irish copy of the UK re-issue, Now has any one got a copy? DAVE. HERE IS MY COPY (SORRY I AIN'T GOT THE RARE DEMO!) LOOKING FOR A BLUE PYE COPY, DOES IT EXIST ON A IRISH PRESS. OR EVEN A CANADIAN COPY??? Edited August 9, 2011 by dthedrug

Denbo Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Hi Denbo, Yes this is my copy, unfortunately it has lots of surface marks but does play through ok Happily, mine's Ex+. What made you think / convinced you it was Irish?
Pete S Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 3 Irish Pyes Why has Footsee got a production date of 1968 when it was actually produced in the 70's? Cos it was recorded in 1968, they just messed about with it a little in 74
Guest Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Happily, mine's Ex+. What made you think / convinced you it was Irish? I don't really know if it is, just what I've read on here.
Only Dreaming Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Well, you beat me to it and saved me a scanning job at the weekend. Yes, that's how my 'Irish' Polydor copy of Tami Lynn looks. Bit annoying the way the title runs across the middle like that. Is this your copy or the one off Popsike? I've got the same one guys. I bought it from a Dublin record shop in the late 80's. As we know, there is nothing to say that it was pressed in Ireland and I'm pretty certain that the release number is the same as the UK one. Take care, Dave

Toodarnsoulful Posted August 11, 2011 Author Posted August 11, 2011 So the answer is No, none else has a copy or seen the record i initially started the thread up for.. Have a great weekend everyone
Only Dreaming Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 At last, confirmation that it IS an Irish release!!! Thanks Dave. It's probably as close as we are going to get!! It would have been good to see the "Made in Ireland" somewhere on the label, but a lot of Polydor Irish releases did not contain that information. Take care, Dave
