It depends Mike, its true there are a lot on offer now, I usually do Prestatyn, Cleethorpes and Fleetwood and enjoy them all for different reasons. But I can't go to everyone that comes along so with a new weekender it has to be something pretty different on offer for me to go.Lifeline is such a case because of the music policy, won't get that at any other weekender.
Guest Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 You pays your money from as little as £20 to £30 to a whopping £250 or £800 if travelling to the USA and you makes your choice. The established weekenders will stay with a loyal following but new ones will have to offer something different to make an impact or survive, not sure if the Hotel thing is the way to go with the Northern crowd as basically if its a toss up between £500 on a weekender or £100 on a weekender and £400 on a rare sound the record will always win let the missus freeze !!
Guest Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 I do Cleggy, Prestatyn and Rimini at present... been looking for something around the November time to make up the circle. For me though a weekender has to be massive - smaller ones I'm not keen on. Truth is, with 2 children and an expensive soul mobile I fast run out of money to do ALL the things I want to do Normal weekend soul events cost me at least 40 quid if I dont drive and you can more than double that if I do drive. And my poor old hubby is a complete soul widow - even at home I'm sat here surfing sites and listening to tunes

I can comment on the Northampton Weekender and that event was set up to attract around 700 maximum, with the intention of making it a little more intimate than the big ones and so that the artists and punters are in close contact! Are we saying that unless a weekender gets 2000 - 3000 people in then they shouldn't go ahead or that they cant be any good? Because I dont think that is the case. Cheers Paddy

Guest Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 I wasn't suggesting anything of the sort Paddy Don't get all defensive on me I said for me personally, I like the massive ones.... means I can hide easily without fear of being found and woken up I'm just a big attention whore so the bigger the audience the better I thoroughly enjoy Northampton as you already know!

Guest Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 (edited) Actually, I'm off to Blackpool... unfortunately not for soul although I feel an additional 50 mile trip to meet up with Steve Cato coming on LOL. Lottie has a big championship ballroom and latin comp so have to attend that - it's more important, but as I said, Manchester isn't too far away so I might sneak off and leave her with my sister for the saturday night I've heard good things about Frankfut... big hug to the Germans for me especially Gerhardt. Guest Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Ooooh... we're all at two and eights The major thing about ANY and ALL weekenders all comes down to the same thing... it's about the quality of the music we all adore and the quality of the fantastic people that attend. I've yet to be dissappointed with any one I have met and have made some brilliant friendships over the years. It's a great big happy family as far as I'm concerned and I love all of it
