For me it would have to be 'Time' - Edwin Starr live at The Ritz mid to late 1970s (can never pin things down to an exact year as memory not so good). Dancing next to a mate who is sadly no longer with us.

On a general note I'm sure those who went to the Casino in the very early days will never forget the dancefloor reaction that 'Rhino' got whenever it was played.

I just thought of another fantastic night.......the first Richard Searling Nighter at the 100 Club, musically unbeatable & I know this was probably me & my heightened senses & being in the groove so to speak, but at the end of RS second set he bigged up Butch's set & it was almost like he was passing the baton .....a perfect moment in time (in my head). Certainly both played amazing sets.

Yeah, fact, Dickie is starting up Lowton, they going for November first one I believe.

Why do you say that-just because I go against the tide?

Done `niters since early 70`s,chose not to use that crap and seen a lot of sorry sights on my travels. Not preaching ,it`s a personal opinion,I do know it`s done by lots of people on a regular basis and that is up to them.I am personally fed up with the overkill relating to how "great" drugs are.

By the way-you`ve used a comma instead of an apostrophe and it`s in the wrong place! LOL :D

this view is crazy . is so far wide of the (language) marke, that its really is B--LL--KS .

QUIZ!

"the greeting that was common to all.

was practised and repeated within the the scene more than any other phrase used all nighters?

what was it?

"keep the faith"

not by a long way, more like

'what you had"

THE Northern soul of soul is based on that fact.

denial like that isnt the northern soul ive norherned' and souled to- a good ninety percent of all northern soul stands on its drug culture. without that----it would be very different, very bloody different..

if you belong to the scene you know this of course.

Even if you "never "touch :hypo: ("JUST MY WEEK TO GIVE UP AMPHETAMINES" ) or ("another course of slimming pills madame?)

....or never entered the zone in the first place. :sleep3: :sleep3: you still know the IMPACT. :glare:

and that has created the biggest and best underground scene the world has known

there is so much good, joy, enlightenment, love and magic around the northern scene that the drugs should not be locked in the cubboard, shouldnt be treated with supressed denial.

unholy that is! and a lie to our past and culture.

I had the very same experience on that track but at that do at the Q Club in Birmingham he (Edwin), Steve Mancha, JJ Barnes did, maybe 98,99, cant remember the date...His set was awesome but Time lifted off, just Edwin standing in front what seemed like a wall of BRASS, just hit you like a train... absolutely Mental experience..

Best 100 club, been 3 or 4 occasions, dancing till the very end with Buey at the Anniversary in 2009, Clara Thomas evoked a hands in the air from everybody at the exact same moment, last hour at Cleethorpes, the Dells make sure, I was close to tears, But the most memorable was Ady playing Gettin to me on normal nighter night... after announcing Ian Levene said he would have put it back, you could feel the unity in club, fabulous experience...

Ain`t denying nothin`.Been in the zone lots of times-just not "your"zone, the emotion in the music manages to do it for me.By the way-what you had?

Too many moments to remember but it has to be Wigan walking in and hearing Ton of Dynamite for the first time -= Thats when I started my super fast shuffle to it!

Think it was followed by Sam ambrose & Friends then Broadway Sissey - God I was sweating after those three.

Going to my first allnighter at the great Wigan Casino with Dave Wise,Ray Vockins, and Alan Crame, dropped 10 dexys totally stoned.Got my membership on the way in and went up and sat down on the balcony totally in awe of the place.Looked over the balcony to see all these incredible dancers and russ winstanley playing Rita Dacosta dont bring me down.Absolutely bloody awesome i was totally smashed and hearing all these top sounds has stuck with me all my life. That in my opinion were the better days. Keep the Faith.

had many a moment of the years but the two that struck a chord with me for different reasons-1 the blackpool mecca reunion in the actual highland room, dancing on that hallowed wood! and my picture making it onto the cover of the "strange world of northern soul" iam doing a jumpin box splits, red shirt on i was just totaly "lost" in the evening,2,i was at a scooter rally in kettering edwin(rip) was performing live to a tightly packed venue, had the crowd eating out of his hand when with out warning he stopped mid song much to the bemusement of his band who all looked puzzled,he got down off stage and rescued a very young girl(aged about 7 i think)who was in danger of being trampled by the dancers, got here up on stage, bollocked her parents, then sang to her to calm her down-"i have faith in you" with out any backing music, every one cheered and all had tears in our eyes the guy was just THE FOOKIN BUSINESS!
