Britmusicsoulfan Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Hello Everyone, I am working with another chap on starting a brand new soul night in Minneapolis-St. Paul that will take place in St. Paul on 18 September. I have posted it in the upcoming soul night section. I have created a logo, but think it could be better. I also would love to see if there's someone out there that could help with designing a logo and a flyer (we would do 4 flyers to the sheet and a poster). I'd be happy to offer soul 45s in return! Feel free to PM if you can help. Cheers!
pikeys dog Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Since you are in the US and have no 'scene' baggage, wouldn't you be better off sorting flyers that would appeal/be more suited to a US / Younger audience, rather than having something cobbled together with all the 'vest and baggy pants' cliches?
boba Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 also there are 9 billion unemployed graphic designers. if your partner is a young guy i would ask him to reach out to his friends, etc. Or is there a college near you? You might want to flyer the college anyways, maybe putting some initial worse looking flyers there with contact info will get you some people who are or who know graphic designers.

Was thinking along the same lines Joe Top idea Bob Edited July 26, 2011 by soulsalmon
Britmusicsoulfan Posted July 26, 2011 Author Posted July 26, 2011 @Pikey's Dog, I am completely open to any sort of flyer that's interesting. I'm not particularly skilled at graphics, hence my need to reach out. The other problem is a limited budget. I've got plenty of records to offer in trade (but nothing big at the moment). While Minneapolis-St. Paul is not known for being particularly soulful music-wise, we do have 2 other soul nights going on. One plays more Northern Soul and R&B, while the other gears more toward rare soul and funk. I've had a chance to check out both soul nights going on here. The crowd definitely skews toward people in their 20s and 30s. @Boba, The big issue for me at the moment with regard to a graphic person is a limited budget. I've done a logo but think someone else could do a much better one. I'd like a poster that's colorful and interesting. The venue is in a great location. We're 2 blocks from a private college with its own radio station, so we'll be definitely talking with them. There are 4 other private colleges within less than 5 miles of the venue. Keep those thoughts coming! Cheers, everyone! Tim

Tim honestly, there are so many graphic designers out there not working that many will do it for free (or next to free) and you even offered some records as payment. If you can find an up and coming collector to do it I'm guessing you could do the trade.
soulsalmon Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 post a j peg of your logo on here, few graphic designers on here as well, bit of info of the sounds that you will be playing
Britmusicsoulfan Posted July 26, 2011 Author Posted July 26, 2011 @soulsalmon, Cheers. The logo I have so far is a logo of a 45 RPM record with Twin Cities Soul - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA below it. I was really hoping to have something like the same 45 RPM record, but have Twin Cities Soul superimposed in white on top of it and Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, USA going around the record. We're planning on sticking to Northern Soul, crossovers and uptempo Motown, Stax, Atlantic, etc. Many thanks!
George G Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 (edited) For the life of me I can't understand why you don't have someone in your own town do this work. No offense to anyone here but don't you think there's enough talent among your fan base in the Twin Cities to design an 'image'? It could also be a way of getting some people on board to your night early - they could bring their friends to show off Edited July 27, 2011 by George G
Britmusicsoulfan Posted July 27, 2011 Author Posted July 27, 2011 Well, my two best friends both to a ton of graphic design things but are just too busy to handle it at the moment. I have checked several times. I might need to teach myself more graphic design than I currently have the knowledge of. Cheers.
Guest Invictus Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Hi Tim I am not a professional graphic designer (I’m a ” new product introduction engineer”) but do have some experience, designing product packaging, product flyers, product manuals, promotion posters, web graphics etc. Apart from soul music and photography, graphics is another of my pastimes. I'm not a professional and don’t expect any remuneration. So, if I can help PM me any graphics’ you’ve got and a brief (also what format your printer would like the files in), I’ll build up a few concepts and send them back to you. Cheers
