Guest
Bought a so-called For connaisseurs only-cd in Belgium the other day, I think it was devoted to tunes currently BIG on dancefloors in London. I bought it because it promised some artists I trust with unfamiliar titles, like the Anglos and Al Wilson e.g. Surprise surprise. The linernotes promised a stomper by Al Wilson, who is all too well-known because of his Las Vegas-Tom Jonesy-lounge number "The snake". Oh really? And what did I get? A Las Vegas-type lounge number (I will not repeat the insult against Tom Jones). Liner notes specialist was sure The Anglos (known for the hit that never was, "Insence") were actually The Spencer Davis Group. On this cd this was not certainly Steve Winwood singing. Well, neither was the singer on "Insence", I can assure. Probably it has been discussed before, but I feel a bit disgusted about the idiocy which can be displayed by all kinds of people camouflaging as connaisseurs. One of the worst things: the Ivories with Please stay (fortunately not the Drifters' number). It is worth 800 pounds so am I ever so lucky to have it on this cd. Well, I do not think so. It is even more mediocre than the other numbers and dare I say it the most expensive single - if there are grades of mediocrity. Am I supposed to like the music and spread the sound or should I look out for unaffordable records which went unnoticed for a reason in their time? I seriously wonder!
