MrsWoodsrules Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 Just a thought to share.Anyone else found themselves with this problem? Don't want to draw attention to a (very desirable) record but need info from the seller. Found a hidden gem (or bootleg) on ebay, seller clearly doesn't know what he has on his hands, as he's advertised the wrong side & he's selling a kinds of junk (or he just might if it's a boot), but need to ask questions about the deadwax info so as to qualify it as an original. Any tips on best way to play it? I've been in this situation a few times now. Anyway, as it happens I've just sent my questions directly to seller, but not sure if played it right to be honest, I'll be gutted if he goes and checks up on the disk as susses it's value. Thoughts welcome. Cheers ears Aid.

MrsWoodsrules Posted July 15, 2011 Author Posted July 15, 2011 He he, therein is the crux of the problem. As it happens, just had a reply from the seller & it's an original, fingers crossed it escapes the attention of the dealers now. Cheers Aid.

davidwapples Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 If he doesnt know what it is worth then a crafty ask seller a question with an " offer he will not be able to refuse " for his old vinyl 45 , you never know what his responce may be and you may get lucky , got a few myself this way
kevinsoulman Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 I HAVE HAD A FEW BARGAINS THIS WAY,IF THEY ARE ONLY A FEW DOLLARS I TAKE THE RISK KEV
Guest Matt Male Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 If he doesn't know what it is and it's cheap maybe it's worth taking a punt without contacting him first?
Sleeps45 Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 sounds like you should just go ahead and take the chance..roll the dice you may get lucky! you should research if the actual disc has been re-issued or booted before you ask any questions..if the disc has no history of being booted or re-issued than most likely its an og..if its worth it take the risk ..a record is only worth what we collectors are willing to pay !
MrsWoodsrules Posted July 16, 2011 Author Posted July 16, 2011 Hi Folks, Won the auction & picked up a copy of Benny Latimore's Rain from the Sky on Blade for a mere £22. I am aware there is a very good boot of this, thats why I had to contact about deadwax info & I know it's an original now. Happy boy, this is uber rare. Cheers ears. p.s. books at 6 ton +.
Ernie Andrews Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 It books at 500 in Manships latest and is just another version of a classic song that to me is inferior to Adam Wades version or the version I prefer which is Peter Lemongello Which I have on a very rare local issue before Rare Bird label and is not listed in manships! I see another coipy VG- minus went for about 40 quid but if you like that version then obviously a bargain to yourself.
bri pinch Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 adam wade's is a superb version, bort a copy on uk columbia for 2 quid off the bay a couple of year ago, bargain i thought bri pinch

MrsWoodsrules Posted July 17, 2011 Author Posted July 17, 2011 Yeah, I do like this version, I supposed it's classed as 'Island' soul for which there is a big market. Just love it when the sellers advertise the wrong side & it's in excellent cond. Will go to the back of my box for a bit but I'll move it on in the future. Aid.
