Guest Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) Love this topic but not the emidiscs! So nice to see these one offs! I once came across a small clutch of Bell test presses including the Rosey Grier and Hal Miller OMOTF. I wonder what they were used for? Edited August 3, 2012 by Flynny
Mark Jones Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I once came across a small clutch of Bell test presses including the Rosey Grier and Hal Miller OMOTF. I wonder what they were used for? It's the mystery that's make these so bloody fascinating!! Acetates also have a uniquie special beauty that I can't explain!
Donkit Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) Just the one from me. Edited August 4, 2012 by donkit

Guest molly7989 Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 i sold a couple of jobete 7" acetates a few years back,i wasnt keen on them then.i only got £200 each for them, seemed a bit cheap looking back now, patrice holloway-for the love of mike. lonely boy-female version of the eric mercury lonely girl,i forget her name now. Thought there was only one copie of the brenda Holloway jobette acetate (autographed at Bretby by her) sold by Pete Lawry to Simon Hunt ( Sharmo 1 on here ) about 15 years ago i know sharmo's still got it so who had the one you sold ? what size plate was it ? any B side .Respect .molly .xx
Dobber Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 sold the two on ebay, probably 6 yr ago on ebay, both were 7 inch acetates and both single sided, the brenda holloway-lonely boy was beige with typed text and a big middle hole, where as the patrice acetate was a blue and white label with a small hole, again single sided, that acetate eas from a different company name.
Chalky Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 thee is this BH from ebay in 2004.. https://www.popsike.com/northern-soul-brenda-holloway-LONELY-BOY-ACETATE/4037000195.html and the PH https://www.popsike.com/northern-soul-patrice-holloway-FOR-THE-LOVE-OF-MIKE/4037000851.html

Guest carl_p Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 (edited) I presume this is Tommy Good? nice uptempo dancer i would guess. b-side is a moody or haunting instrumental. Edited August 8, 2012 by carl_p
Sleeps45 Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 does anyone have that Pretenders-Lonely Eyes acetate?
Marc Forrest Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Thought there was only one copie of the brenda Holloway jobette acetate (autographed at Bretby by her) sold by Pete Lawry to Simon Hunt ( Sharmo 1 on here ) about 15 years ago i know sharmo's still got it so who had the one you sold ? what size plate was it ? any B side .Respect .molly .xx theres at least two as I have one too. bought it six years ago after an allnighter in leipzig shortly before I went back to the hotel...a deal in a rush, which sometimes can proove the best ones. on looking back I must say I am quite happy I did that deal despite the vg at best condition. its not a jobete acetate but a motown 7inch acetate with the known look and feel to it, red and back typing.
Dave Thorley Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Just off topic, but to insert a scan do you have to now upload first into 'my media'. If so why ???, what was wrong with the old method !!!

Sean Hampsey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 A few here from the collection, that might be of interest to some. First up, the immortal, unreleased Sam Dees 'Funny'. Crossover perfection from Chess. Sean
Sean Hampsey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Staying with Sam Dees, the Awesome 'In My World' Pub Acetate.
Sean Hampsey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 The mesmerising Beat Ballad / Crossover George E. Smith.
Sean Hampsey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 On the flipside of George E. Smith, a superb 'unreleased' version of The Manhattens 45.
Sean Hampsey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Lovely 4 Tracker here from Renaldo Domino (Blue Rock / Smash output). Always loved "I'm Hip To Your Game" which sounds so right for now, alongside the truly fabulous oldie "You Don't Love Me No More".
Sean Hampsey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Think I already posted this, but just in case... the ultimate Northern Soul record in its rarest format. :0)
Sean Hampsey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Nice version of Marion Love / Jerry Butler!
Goldsoul Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Sadly not near my scanner, but how about two weird ones. I think I have the only acetate in existence of Van McCoy's guide vocal on I Get The Sweetest Feeling. April Blackwood 1967. Ironically, I got it from Rich Rosen in 1978 for $3! When I worked at Magic in Leeds in the 90's, I bought a DJ's collection from the 60's and found a EMI disc of Shotgun Wedding- Roy C!! Proud to say that You'll Always Be In Style- Ad Libs came from me. Who has it now?
Sean Hampsey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Speaking of Jerry Butler, here's the original of his great 45 by Lorraine Ellison, Fontana Acetate on a Mercury 45.
Goldsoul Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Sean- I have the original Flasher- Mistura including the vocal version(never released) acetate. That was the only copy cut when we came out of the studio in 1975. Happy to loan it to you for Just Soul lol
Mike Lofthouse Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 A few here from the collection, that might be of interest to some. First up, the immortal, unreleased Sam Dees 'Funny'. Crossover perfection from Chess. Sean don't know what all the fuss is about Sean - if it was any good it would of been released

Hi Kev, Quite an achievment getting a bargain off Rosen mate. The guy would skin a fart! :0) Just while you mention Roy C, howabout this Rare issue. Not an Acetate... but interesting... Will put up a few UK Acetates in a mo. Sean

Sean Hampsey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Another Unreleased and Unknown, fab femme crossover!
Sean Hampsey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Another lovely 4 tracker by the Marriotts - feat the stunning "Tell It Like It Is" and a couple of unreleased beautys!
Sean Hampsey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 From the Master, a 'Poet' outtake that always get's em going :0)
Sean Hampsey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Always loved Major Lance Motown efforts, especially on "I Never Thought I'd Be Losing You" - a record with loads of mileage for future spins.
Guest Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 (edited) Don't think I've ever offered these two up before:Dotte Cambridge aka Dorothy Moore unissued double-sider...both good Northern!Larry Banks GWP file copy. Edited August 10, 2012 by Flynny 1
Sean Hampsey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 One of the biggest records on the scene, back in 83... the old 'Leon & The Whispers" cover up... impossible on an issue 45 (only 3-4 known copies?) so how scarce and desirable the Acetate! 1
Sean Hampsey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Bit of an iconic piece this... from the pen and vocal chords of the late, great, Nick Ashford.
