Wilxy Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Coincidentally, was listening to a few 45's on headphones this afternoon to save over indulging neighbours, and I can assure you, Levi Stubbs will always be the Dogz, Gone yet still Immortal .....sorry to diversify....just becomes almost personal on headphones...".do what you gotta do"
Dave Pinch Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 laurence payton sang lead on feel free...... from a 70`s abc lp might be meeting of.. not sure dave
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Lawrence Peyton also sings lead on several early Four Tops Motown sides - he often sings the verse, while Levi steams in for the chorus. For example he's the main lead on 'Left With A Broken Heart'' from the group's first album ,and 'Love Feels Like Fire' from the second. He actually sounds like Levi so it isn't immediately apparent that he's singing, rather than Mr. Stubbs.
Guest Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 The greatest male voice of Motown!!! Baby I need your loving!
Rugby Soul Club Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 The greatest male voice of Motown!!! Baby I need your loving! ...and one of the best male voices, full stop...
Sutty Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 'Tell me you love me' from 'Meeting of the minds' was released on 45 under the name 'Lawrence Payton' rather than the Four Tops for some reason cheers Sutty

Jordirip Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 LP was "Strung Out" with Feel Free and the brilliant all time fav. title track. Jordi
iansgee Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Levi Stubbs was undoubtedly one of the best Male singers at Motown. A record that for me epitomises Levi the best is the B side to "Ask the lonely", the sublime "Where did you go". A voice made in heaven and now in heaven along with Marvin, Jackie, Norman, Darrell and all the other greats of our scene. KTF Ian G
