Mike Lofthouse Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 All that lot listed and I can't see a mention of Billy Harner - arguably the most prolific of the lot. And a genuine Blue eyed soul singer rather than a rock/pop artist who made a record that got played on the northern soul scene!
Gene-r Posted July 8, 2011 Author Posted July 8, 2011 Margo & The Marvettes " When Love Slips Away " My apologies if it has been mentioned before . Malc Lovely!
Souljer6 Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 How can this inferior version trump Dee Dee Warwicks sublime original?? Has Len Barry been mentioned yet? A true ns hero. What about April Stevens, Jimmy Seals, John Andrews, Frankie & Johnny, Sharon Soul??
Pete S Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 If anyone wants something to listen to while browsing this topic, here's a podcast I did a while back, it's not ALL blue eyed, but there are some great blue eyed tracks mixed in there https://www.mixcloud.com/mayfairmenthol/blue-eyes-black-heart-rare-northern-soul/

Guest Matt Male Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 I'm a fan of Susan Rafey. Hurt So Bad and I Can't Say are stand outs by her. Can't get Refosoul to work for some reason...
Guest Matt Male Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Also The Underdogs version of Love's Gone Bad. I quite like a bit of garage.

That is a fantastic version, I've actually got this, one of the few originals I actually bothered to keep cos I knew it wasn't available on a pressing.
Pete S Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 That Judy Hughes record is terrible but thanks for putting the clip up, I'd never seen it before, I thought it was just a rumour!
Guest MrC Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 looks like a couple of peoples minds have gone blank
Brav Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 (edited) Wow Pete, i'm shocked !!!!! been listening to Beverly Ann for 30 odd years and never realised she was white Brav Edited July 8, 2011 by Brav
Simsy Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 That Judy Hughes record is terrible but thanks for putting the clip up, I'd never seen it before, I thought it was just a rumour! No problem. I wish Tony Smith would come round to your way of thinking and sell me his copy for a snip, instead of the grand + this goes for.
Gene-r Posted July 8, 2011 Author Posted July 8, 2011 Really pleased to see how the thread is going - lots of interesting clips which I'm looking forward to listening to in my lunch hour, or when I get home later. Keep it going!
nrc Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Im not fussed either way as long as long as it sounds good. Nobody seems to knock a bit of Mitch Ryder.
Pete S Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 This is a great version of a classic song, came out on UK Stateside
Pete S Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Jimmy McFarland - Lonely lover Don Ray - Born a loser Vicki baines - Country girl (I suspect) doni burdick - i have faith in you wayne cochran - i'm in trouble
Guest in town Mikey Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 I'm guessing Beverley Ann is white. You've got your mind.... and He's Coming Home, on the right night, can usually get me dancing. When I first started going to nights around the Gloucester area, he's Coming Home was a sure bet to get a full dancefloor for any DJ. Maybe wouldnt get the same reaction, outside of a Sunday evening at a weekender?

Definately white, she is in fact Breverly Bremmers who sang "get smart girl" on Scepter, she's also on Facebook and happy to answer "friend" requests and have the odd chat!

Chalky Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Righteous brothers - it's up to you - mgm One of my all-time face tracks Kenny lad The whole LP is superb. Breakaway (Toni Basil), I put both the short and extended version of the video up on here. You should watch it when refo up and running again
Wiggyflat Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 That Judy Hughes record is great..............last heard it out at Warrens Boogaloo
Gene-r Posted July 8, 2011 Author Posted July 8, 2011 (edited) The clip of Judy Hughes on Shivaree is absolutely awesome! I didn't know about it either, but I have just been pleasantly gobsmacked! And she's quite a cutie! PS - The Contessas is also brilliant! Can't believe it's only a £20something record - sounds like it should be worth at least five times that amount! Edited July 8, 2011 by Gene-R
Gene-r Posted July 8, 2011 Author Posted July 8, 2011 brilliant record, also another great record called peace pipe. Yep - if it's the instrumental track you're talking about Gary, it's by Pal & The Prophets on Jamie. I assume it's the same Pal (Rakes) & The Prophets who did "Can't Deny The Hurt" - is that right?
