Guest eddiep Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 (edited) Hi everyone, Info required on this 45 if anyone can help? Bit of a Rhythm 'n' Blues kind of thing going on with this one. Is it the same group in an earlier formation as the Volcanos that were on Arctic ?? Anyone heard of the label before ?? Tried to find some in the usual place's but drawn a blank when ever I've looked and I'm still none the wiser some 4 years or so after getting it. Thanks in advance people All the best, Eddie Edited July 7, 2011 by eddiep
boba Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 I think this is a known rockabilly record. No connection to the philly group. Label looks LA.
Guest eddiep Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 (edited) Cheers boba, That's something at least ! Anyone know any Rockabilly fans / dealers I could try and find out anymore info from? Thanks guys Edited July 7, 2011 by eddiep
Kris Holmes Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Hadn't heard of this before but you're right, a rockabilly/r&b slanted 45. Sometimes listed as Johnny Duke & The Volcanos. Are all the copies red vinyl? Looks like the only reference is to it being comped back a few years ago & a couple of blog/popsike posts. Seems to sell in the low 3 figures. Nice find I'd say
Weingarden Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 I've had this forever and always considered it R&B, not rockabilly. Whatever. Great record.
boba Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 I've had this forever and always considered it R&B, not rockabilly. Whatever. Great record. you know much more than me in these genres but i think the lines are not as clear cut between R&B and rockabilly, are they?
Kris Holmes Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 (edited) Sounds R&B to me, but googling it sees it linked to as many Rockabilly references. I used to heavily collect Rockabilly & have never run into it before. Seems like the promos are on red vinyl. Maybe the flip is more rockabilly? Or the fact that they are a white group lessens their R&B-ness in some people's eyes?? Edited July 8, 2011 by Kris Holmes
