I don't see how someone could think this is a White group. "I don't think I'll ever love another" is one of the greatest sweet soul records of all time, KILLER falsetto harmony (and much better than the recently hyped cover by the Darling Dears, which is good). The northern side is just okay.

That's obviously a black group - I said I saw a picture sleeve for a group called Rock Candy and they were white but it's probably a different group (they were on MCA early 70's)

I'm sorry that you don't have any real points of comparison, apparently you haven't heard much 70s soul music. thumbsup.gif

It sounds just like the Stylistics "Betcha by golly wow", well the bits I listened to did. Just thought it was dull. Sorry.

I have plenty of 7ts tune's just don't care for this sweet falsetto stuff much, save Eddie Holman and a couple others much better than this.

It's fine if you don't like it, different strokes for different folks. It just clearly sounds more like the Stylistics and Delfonics than the Four Seasons. The record is maybe my favorite record of all time, I can listen to it on repeat forever.

I think some people get them mixed up with the UK band who recorded on MCA. Their 'Remember' is a re-write of "Un Rayo de Sol" by Hawkes and Blakely of The Tremeloes.

That's why I mentioned that I didn't think Rock Candy were a white group on that other thread.

I have "alone with no love" on Dontee - and remember the flip being anything but a blue eyed sound having played it a couple of times.

Thanks for reminding.

One of my all time favourites is the evergreen La La Means I Love You by The Delfonics but in general I don't like falsetto singing, Bee Gees and Four Seasons also made some incredible records but the falsetto is usually grating.

I didn't mean to insult your favourite record of all time Bob!

Brilliant! "Sha La La La La, Oh Oh Oh". Los Diablos, massive sound in Benidorm 1970!!!:) .

I think the main confusion arises from the two releases of "Alone With No Love".

The first release was credited to The Contemplations, and dates from August 1969. It's backed with the instrumental by the "Dontee Studio Band".

The second release of this was the B-side to "I Don't Think I'll Ever Love Another" by Rock Candy. This February 1971 release credits Rock Candy as the artists on both sides, when in fact "Alone With No Love" is the very same cut as the Contemplations release.

I'd always assumed that Rock Candy only cut one track , "I Don't Think I'll Ever Love Another", and the Contemplations track was used as a random B-side filler because Rock Candy didn't have a track of their own to use as a B-side. Then again, I could be wrong. Interesting, though.

I wasn't insulted!

Falsetto harmony (slow or fast) is my absolute favorite soul sound. Here's another of my favorite records which is more northern:

here's another killer sweet one

good taste Bob..I like this version better than the Darling dears although theyre both wicked

yeah the best part since the song builds up slowly is when they hit the high note saying "I don't think I'll ever love another". The darling dears has a totally different feel since it's all psychedelic, they actually sing a lower note at that point.
