Smudger Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 If you'd have asked me back in the day i probably would have said a uk copy of Chubby Checker Dicotheque as this was one record everybody wanted to own and play, but that is showing my age and well before any imports started coming over in any numbers. Closest i got was cu ma la be stay/everything's wrong on Uk cameo parkway found in 2nd hand shop in Hull along with stateside copy of Jimmy Radcliffe everything's wrong still brings a smile to my face when i hear it great sound 1
Lucky One Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I would have to chose between, The Salavadors stick by me badly and Gene to ones what more do you want. In my opinion they are as good as it gets as regards northern soul.
rodders Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Hard to do with one record I'd say you'd need to have 5 records, one male, one female, one male group, one femme group and one instrumental. Major Lance-You don't Want me no more. Rose Batiste -hit and run. Natural Four-I thought you were mine. The Sherry's-put your loving arms around me. San Remo Strings-Festival time. These 5 were off the top of my head, could change if I thought about it more.
oficrete Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Realy hard to do . Steve Karen Breakaway Lillie Bryant Meet me half way Rex Garvin Sock it to em J B these are records that turned me onto Northern soul back in the 70s 1
Guest Carl Dixon Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I will head for: This thing called love/Johnny Wyatt or even something like: Ooh! Pretty Lady/Al Kent (which I have not heard for years on the dance floor) or even: Girl in the candy store/The Reflections
Guest Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 (edited) If you wanted to put across the feeling of being on Mr M's packed dance floor at 4.00am, you could play SAXIE RUSSELL - PSYCHEDELIC SOUL.It oozes hardcore Northern all-nighter atmosphere! Edited February 26, 2015 by Guest

Dayo Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 (edited) About ten years ago I introduced my wife-to-be to NS. I weened her on Dusty, Yvonne Baker and Ray Pollard, but the one that really did it for her was Dana Valery. It's that thunderous bass line which still sounds as good today as it did in '74.
