Guest gerrymcw Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Know this has possibly been discussed before but am an occasional lurker on here rather than hardcore regular and may have missed it so apologies in advance if this is old ground.... Have seen a lot of these type repros on ebay https://cgi.ebay.com/Blues-Rockabilly-JUNE-BATEMAN-Possum-Belly-Overalls-/190438685788?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D5%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D1101058723459883576 anyone know if there is any way you can confirm originals from repros (mark in run out grooves?). Cheers

Cheers From what I know, they were done by the same person who did all the psych and freakbeat bootleg repros a few years ago so presumably he used the same pressing plant (in Yugoslavia or somewhere near) so the deadwax will only have (probably) the scratched in record number - haven't got one of the r & b ones so can't check. And they will of course all be vinyl.
Kris Holmes Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 The repros look & feel like new records, but of course that's a bit tough to tell online. If they seem too good to be true, they probably are. The run out grooves will either have the song title etched or the label name followed by catalog number then A or B. So for the example above "Shaw 45-101 A" etc. The Jazzman associated ones usually have United Pressing numbers in the grooves for example U-54632 & a U in a circle.
Ezzie Brown Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 (edited) this may help ........... regarding the latest new run of rockabilly/ blues type things.........................the price is the same for almost all of them.., there mint ...............and cheap .......thats the big give away ..........and the same sellers list them in batches ussually ..................................loads on offer if you type in" blues" in vinyl records search on us e bay .....the older repros are ussually i think, old store stock so mint and cheap also.......some sellers mention the fact there repros ,some dont ....look in sellers feedback, see how many of any one item he has sold also .......ezzie Edited July 4, 2011 by ezzie brown
Guest gerrymcw Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 cheers for the replies - not so much a case of avoiding them as fact i have copies of few these records that i'd like to be able to confirm as originals if sell them on at some point rather than relying on someone taking my word i had them for years before the repros came out!. almost tempted to buy one so i can compare cheers again
