beware of the harold melvin "verison" that is floating about online , it is just the millie jackson version that has been messed about with on a pc and had the vocals slowed down

So it becomes an even drearier dirge

Once heard a version played out as "Jerry Fuller" - sounded exactly the same as MJ - even the vocals sounded the same, so it may be the one mentioned above.

I did try to listen out for "still reflects 'his' memory" in the song but never got to hear that far into it as my empty beer glass took me to the bar.

got to agree this is one miserable song that does my napper in.

its surely ought to have been flogged off years ago , in fact it should be condemned and demolished ffs

OMG........................PLEASE DON'T TELL ME THERE'S ANOTHER VERSION OF THIS...............ONE IS BAD ENOUGH!!!

Heard the doctored "Harold Melvin" version played out somewhere ages ago now.

"He" still sings his memory.

A strange sounding version all in all, no wonder it sunk without trace.

no thats not it, sorry played it again that it, ??? its great wheres it from

Kent uk release if that's what you mean ?

yes i know that, but is it my ears or have the years of substance abuse nulled my senses or is this version different, its the backing singers i,m sure, or modern mixing things

Totaly different backing is well cool and loads different, doubt whether Kent would use anything other than a original take ask Ady or the other fella who works for 'em on here.

Just in case you still like the tune, but are fed up with the song, the instrumental of 'House For Sale' that Rob Keyloch and I mixed down a couple of years ago - from the original multitrack tape - is available on the Kent CD 'Double Cookin' and also on one of the CD upgrades of Millie's original albums that Rob and I did at around the same time (can't remember which one offhand, check the Ace website www.acerecords.com to find out for yourself....

We brought out elements of the track that make it a very nice stand-alone instro.

Got a version here by Jerry Butler on a P.I.R. demo, ref number ZS8 368 from 1978, 3 mins. 40 seconds long. Brilliant !! Tony. OZ.

I'll bet that's the one i thought I heard credited to Jerry fuller. Can't find any refrence to that list number - found the zs8 3680 - 3690 - only one Jerry Butler listed in that range, but there are a few missing numbers - any chance of a scan

Cheers

Mick

House for Sale was originally played as an album track at the Mecca as they were more open to album tracks but I sure I heard it at Casino or Ritz, Got 45 release UK only on the popularity of it hence edited version with some of the ad-libs out of place and louder backing singers and possibly some rearranging of the verses. More of a clip-clop beat possibly speeded up.

A favourite of mine and definitely a crowd pleaser (for the girls)

Here you go Mick, scan as requested.

Regards

Tony

Is it me, it don't look right ? Emidisc/carver with doctored photo copy label ? i have loads of PIR records none like this and SHOULD have four numbers after ZS8.

Not exactly sure of it's origin, I purchased it from Steve Jeffries from Leicester a few years back. Played it out on Friday, everyone loved it. A grittier vocal than Millie Jackson.

There's an unknown 3688 (as in possibly not issued) but I bet it's not this one.

Doesn't feature in any Jerry Butler discography either.

It's 3683-3 he's left it intact underneath.

Cause there isn't one Jaco, it's some twonck playing with pitch etc on a pc................bad form or what.biggrin.gif bet M J is well happy about this.

I feel a Frank Wilson moment coming on ....... but as most seem to be thumbing their nose at it I'll just state that I love the record, nice middle age dance tempo, super sexy singing voice, ok so I could do without the sales pitch on the room size but for a cheapie its none too shabby in terms of bang for your buck. And that You Tube clip where the label keeps changing colour.... that's some trippy shit going on there.

Probably so Ken but it doesn't really bother me. I just like the sound of it and don't intend trying to play it anywhere but here. Still can't confirm it's true origin either way.
