Northern Soul Uk Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Can someone let me know if this is rare and what would one expect to pay for a copy? Big Frank & The essences - I won't let her see me cry
Iancsloft Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Came out on two labels Blue Rock and Phillips pricewise these days between £150--200
Markw Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Can someone let me know if this is rare and what would one expect to pay for a copy? Big Frank & The essences - I won't let her see me cry It's not at all rare and it only goes for a tenner but as I'm feeling very generous today, I will give you twenty my friend...............
Cheltsoulnights Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 its extremely rare on both labels. very unlikely to find one easily. I sold the blue rock copy for £350 ex+ still have the philips one. kept it as it was mint. Only ever seen 2 blue rock copies and the one philips. Its a tough one. Good luck in finding a copy
Trev Thomas Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 most philips copies have the blue rock label underneath the philips label
Cheltsoulnights Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 heard that at the time but simply not true. 2 totally different press's from different machines. from memory i think the blue rock issue is vinyl? its a strange looking label design as well not the traditional light blue
Trev Thomas Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 (edited) heard that at the time but simply not true. 2 totally different press's from different machines. from memory i think the blue rock issue is vinyl? its a strange looking label design as well not the traditional light blue sorry pete, totally true, ive had 4 copies on philips over the years, three of which had the blue rock label under the philips, blue rock is on styrene, the label design is the earlier blue rock design before the light blue, tony diamond "dont turn away" is on same design Edited May 5, 2012 by trev thomas
Cheltsoulnights Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 This may well be true but the 2 i had at the same time where definitely different presses and no visable under label. maybe it was made twice? is there a demo of either?
Trev Thomas Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 (edited) never seen a demo of either, you did well to find a mint philips copy, most are in poor condition, if i remember correctly the three over labeled philips copies i had, had the blue rock number in the deadwax Edited May 5, 2012 by trev thomas
Trev Thomas Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 heres a scan of the earlier blue rock label design
tosspot Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I paid £150 for my copy on blue rock (i'm a blue rock label collector), i think the philips one is a tad rarer tho', maybe @ £250? Hope this helps Rob...
Guest gfarrington Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 for what its worth it makes a brill ringtone
Guest JIM BARRY Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 i gave pat brady £250 for a ex copy on phillips, after playing it on a technics deck tried to get my money back, pat told me all copies were like that!!, managed to get my money back when i sold up....great tune.
Northern Soul Uk Posted June 21, 2011 Author Posted June 21, 2011 Excellent, thank you all for the info, I will carry on with my search
Cheltsoulnights Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 when i had both copies i kept the Philips one purely on condition. Both copies played great but the blue rock one had a few surface marks and a slight bit of ring wear so let it go. All this was about 5/6 years ago. Will dig it out
Trev Thomas Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 in answer to petes question regarding demos, ive been in touch with the guy i sold the last "over labeled" copy to, he's managed to partly peel the philips label back to reveal a white blue rock label with red text, like the enclosed scan but white label and red text as opposed to pink and black
Cheltsoulnights Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I remember checking at the time. But not an obvious over label. will dig out tomorrow
Trev Thomas Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I remember checking at the time. But not an obvious over label. will dig out tomorrow the copy ive got now isnt over labeled, its got philips number in deadwax
Markw Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Sure does Pete! For what it's worth, I've had a Blue Rock and a Phillips in my time. The Blue Rock I had early 80s not long after it was uncovered (Big Joe Ivory's Brass?), the Phillips late 90s. Definitely not over-labelled. Just on the basis of copies seen floating around for sale in the last 10 years or so etc, I would have thought Blue Rock was rarer? But that's just based on my perception not any firm knowledge.
Northern Soul Uk Posted June 22, 2011 Author Posted June 22, 2011 It's not at all rare and it only goes for a tenner but as I'm feeling very generous today, I will give you twenty my friend............... LOL! If only I had one to sell you Markw :-)
