Sean Hampsey Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 One of my faves from one of my favourite artists! A totally incredible record I plug at every opportunity. Magnificent lyrics, superbly performed. Just sit back and marvel at the mastery! Sean 1
Sean Hampsey Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 But if you're looking for Mellow, this should do the business. The Hutch had it all! 1
Sean Hampsey Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 And I'm still blown away, after many long years, by this beautifully soulful masterpiece. Bloody hell... I need another drink! Thanks Roger & Bri. Great thread! Sean 1
Kev Cane Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 But if you're looking for Mellow, this should do the business. The Hutch had it all! Some great contributions from Bri and Sean, I love em all, and like Sean says, the guy had the lot, but this is the Daddy for me, one of those solitary listening only records IMHO, i posted another track from the "Ode To My Lady" set in refro but won,t load up, its another beauty in the same vein "Since I Found You", if anyone has the technical ability, please post it up, see y,all at Just Soul on the 2nd Kev
Anoraks Corner Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Quite simply one of the best value for money, uptempo, storming, stomping, agro-Soul, in yer face thumpers there is! No smiling allowed when you dance to this one!
John Reed Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 (edited) He was such a great artist. His Motown LP Havin A House Party was a great set released in the middle of the disco dark years. This is another great track from the LP and I think was his last Motown single release. Edited June 21, 2011 by John Reed
Anoraks Corner Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Has his, 'Love Power' track on Motown ever received scene spins...quite a pleasant mover.

Blackpoolsoul Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Willie ALWAYS made some brilliant stuff and sadly has often been overlooked and this LP "The Mark Of The Beast" 1
Smudger Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Willie Hutch I bought the Mack sound track blind in the 70's which was closely followed by Fully Exposed and i was blown away by both, there are so many wonderful tracks that it is hard to single one out,his motown catalogue is terrific on its own but here is a favourite done for Norman Whitfields label on a hard to find uk 7"

Soultaker Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 Willie Hutch - I Wish You Love Been playing this non stop lately. 1
Soulstrutter Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 (edited) and a lesser known (and expensive) one he arranged and produced and written by his brother (Richard) from 1977 ... not seen anything else from this group so guessing it's their only release .. unless of course anyone can shed more light? Edited February 23, 2020 by Soulstrutter 2
Soulstrutter Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 (edited) ... and surprised to discover that he also wrote Steve Flanagan's - I Need To Be Loved So Bad (far superior flipside to (the 'awful' C&W/popcorn) I've Arrived on Era). Is this the same SF who was later a member of Creative Source? Edited February 23, 2020 by Soulstrutter 1
Smudger Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 Another done for Norman Whitfield and hard to find on 7" 1

You're right as it's on flip to 'Everybody Needs Money' issues only ... most available seem to be same-sided promos without this side. It's the best track on the disappointing 'Midnight Dancer' album from 79 consisting of mainly 'disco' tracks ... he moved back to Motown after this LP and didn't release another album until 85 but in the interim had his first UK hit (#51) (of only 2) with 'In And Out' 45/12'' only (12'' had Brothers Gonna Work It Out' on flip whilst 45 had The Girl (Can't Help It)). His only other UK charting single (#73) was Keep On Jammin' in 1985. Unfortunately his career seemed to fade after this releasing 2 albums in 90s and one in 2002 none of which (for me) came anywhere near the quality of his 70s output.

Thanks for posting. I 100% agree with you that after the 70's his output was not same. For me I guess it's the more modern sound of the music from 80 on, as it just not even come close to what we heard from him for the most part.
Smudger Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 This got a 7" release in Japan a few years ago 1

Soulstrutter Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Here's one possibly(?) not that well known that he wrote for Marvin Gaye for his unreleased 1972 LP I'm Your Man (released posthumously in 2019) 'I'm Gonna Give You Respect' - Willie also recorded it and it was released on Expansion compilation (only?) 'Try It You'll Like It' in 2003. It also features on G.C. Cameron's debut solo LP Love, Songs & Other Tragedies (with a few other Hutch penned songs) in 1974 (with Marvin & Willie on backing vocals) 1
Soulstrutter Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 (edited) No one posted this yet? Lucky To Be Loved By You .. LP only from Soul Portrait UPDATE ... Apologies ... this HAS already been posted! Edited March 2, 2020 by Soulstrutter 2
Guest Shufflin Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 my favourite non northern track by him (great LP)
Soulstrutter Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 (edited) .. and from The Mack LP 1973 the 'anthemic' I Choose You ... timeless pure quality. Covered by Chicago Gangsters on Red Coach/Gold Plate (also an epic 9:20 version on Blind Over You LP on Gold Plate) which I was going to post but for me Willie's version is the definitive version that cannot be touched! Soulstrutter Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 1982 modern soul / club classic from Gwen McCrae - Keep The Fire Burning
Soulstrutter Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 (edited) From the same 1982 album (On My Way) as 'Keep The Fire Burning' is 'Doin' It' which only got a single release (7" & 12") in UK ... but a rarer version is by Chuck Strong on Invasion Edited March 3, 2020 by Soulstrutter
Pezer Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 From the Midnight Dancer album: Kelly Green and Never let you be without love, are for me among his best work.
