Posted this a few days ago but appears to have disappeared into cyberspace.

There is no way that this is Spyder Turner singing but the late, great Emanuel Laskey. The song is written and produced by Clay McMurray who worked with Laskey, and wrote a lot of his songs, at Thelma Records. My suspicion is that 'Stand by me' became a hit so quickly that there wasn't time to record a flip, so they improvised ...and this was the result. It's a great song but definitely James Emanuel Laskey.

It would be interesting to get input from Turner or McMurray.

I asked Spyder from the horses mouth if it is or isn't him singing "YGEFM" and he said from the horses mouth it is him singing the track.

I spoke to him in person three years ago and had discussed this and his GoodTime 45. Had pics taken with him and the 45s. Seems strange that he never mentioned anything?

Regards,

Dave

Like a mule, I still believe it is Laskey. Incidentally, and this doesn't prove anything, YGEFM was not included on the 'Stand by me' album. Hmmmmmm.

Spyder Turner was renowned for having a varied and adaptable range of vocal sounds and styles - as shown on 'Stand By Me'

It is deffinitely 'Laskey'-like Rob and I know what you mean - but I'm not convinced it's Emanuel - not quite 'Laskey' enough

If Spyder said it was him I guess we should take his word for it unsure.gif

Cheers
