Barry Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 (edited) Just seen this on Manship's site @ £57 with a couple of week on it and am amazed at the price of it - sure it was a soul pack fave. I've had this buried for years and have kept going back to it every now and then, as you do with the backroom boxes of stuff, but it's never rubbed me up the right way. WOT A BELTER!! Is this indicative of what is played on the funkier side of NS at present? Edited June 14, 2011 by Barry
Barry Posted June 14, 2011 Author Posted June 14, 2011 Anyone know a list price and then a real price for it?
Guest veep1296 Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I spotted this on Johns auction last night & went up in the loft and found it. Unfortunately it didnt set my heart racing so back it went. DF

Guest garysoul82 Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 i disagree with both of you. This is a great dancer in the same vain as the isonics.Pat Brady was pushing this 30 years ago on his sales list along with many others and some of them have become monster niter tracks.this is a great sound an will go big,
Mike Lofthouse Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Sold mine for £100 about 18 months ago. Never did anything for me. Think I bought it as a 'front page' recommendation from Soul Bowl circa '76 - must of been 85p - £1 back then. Mike

Ian Dewhirst Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I can't easily recall the tune but I seem to remember it sounding way too messy for my purposes back then. It probably sounds OK for today's audiences as I think slightly messier/looser/funkier productions are in vogue, which is reflected in the popularity of the Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings/Dap-Tone stuff........ Less is more these days it would seem. Ian D

Barry Posted June 14, 2011 Author Posted June 14, 2011 I was talking production-wise smartass! Ian D Apologies for the slow response, I just been knee-deep in that Mecca thread you dragged up.
Jez Bishop Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 (edited) Mine was a Soul Bowl soul pack er, special ! Worked out at 25 pence back then. That reminds me, at the bottom of a box of dusty 45's I found an old Soul Bowl credit note for 20 pence ( it's so old it's actually parchment & written in ink by John the 'Soulfinder General' ) . Maybe will try to add a few noughts to it? Edited June 14, 2011 by jez bishop

Constantly amazes me how people try to strip a record ,almost dissecting it for its "soulful"content ,when really you just need to go to a good night out and see just how much effect a record like this gets people up . Of course if you like to stand and talk all night and discuss the context of what is soulful ....your in THE wrong venue.lol Each to their own eh!

NEV Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 ...and while I'm at it, what are you going on about here at all? Sorry Barry.....I'm just a simple brick layer...and I've just realised its past my bed time...so you'll have to find someone else to play with. Suffice to say.....self explanatory.....you asked ,you and others gave an opinion of this record....but sadly from a perspective of people who don't go out and judge the effect of a record played in a venue ,for people who haven't forgot how we got here in the 1st place. Night Sue...gud night Mary Ellen I

Sebastian Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 A great pounding tune! Sounds immense when played over a good sound system. Ridiculous bass line! Might very well have been a soul pack record 25 years ago, but it's a difficult 45 to turn up nowadays and a lot of people are after it.
