Guest Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 (edited) >>> PYE <<< A story regailed to me by Dave Godin concerning Pye . When he was involved in the Soul / R & B releases for Pye / Pye International , Dave's boss was a woman who had taken a " shine " to him , unbeknowing of his gender , and repeatly attempted to get Dave to reciprocate the attention , to which he shunned / excused without giving offence to the lady in question . Dave admitted that , despite Pye releasing selected product on the two labels , it was always a struggle to get them scheduled as his boss always gave him a hard time , as previous releases that Dave had steered her way did not give respective / healthy monetary return . This is when he decided to make it easy for himself when proposing recordings for release ........ for he pretended to be interested in her , promising things that he knew he would never deliver . The ruse worked , as whatever he proposed , she gave the green light on . As he stated " I got what I wanted , she got f**k all " . Malc Edited May 29, 2011 by Malc Burton
Windlesoul Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 (edited) One from me -Johnny Nash Strange Feeling acetate, a UK Pye / Chess job Did this come out on UK eventually? Edited May 29, 2011 by mark w.
Pete S Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 You need to separate Pye from Pye International, two totally different labels. Pye released product by UK artists, Pye International released product by non-UK artists licensed in.
45cellar Posted May 31, 2011 Author Posted May 31, 2011 Did wonder about splitting them, PYE INTERNATIONAL being the Main Interest, decided to group together as PYE has fewer Soul Titles.
45cellar Posted May 31, 2011 Author Posted May 31, 2011 NEW ZEALAND Some nice releases from New Zealand, didn't realise how many.

No but the point I'm making is that it would be like putting Stateside and Parlophone in the same topic, both owned by EMI but separate entities, Pye and Pye International were both owned distributed by Pye but have nothing to do with one another apart from the name.

Cyril Davis Allstars was a british group and had releases on Pye International, Not sure if there are any others. They auditioned for both Decca and Pye, but picked Pye due to the R & B series

Greety Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 Well done Nickinstoke. A man with admirable taste. Do you believe in Magic by the Loving Spoonful. The greatest feelgood record (non Soul of course) ever made. The lyrics could easily relate to all nighters. What a brilliant demo to have!! If you ever want to sell it sir, than look no further.
Guest veep1296 Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 And a simple UK non international to finish...
45cellar Posted June 4, 2011 Author Posted June 4, 2011 This one in the PYE INTERNATIONAL DISCO DEMAND SERIES Has a couple of Label Variations, not sure how many of the others had variations of Silver or Black writing.
45cellar Posted June 4, 2011 Author Posted June 4, 2011 DORIS TROY was Special Order if memory serves
Guest VepT5 Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 A couple of late additions from me Demo & stock of the Rainbow People. This is terrible to scan, but it is actually a Demo copy of Nosmo - Goodbye.
Anoraks Corner Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I can't believe no ones put this stomper up yet...liberated from a Japanese store this past weekend! I may consider sensible trades on this one
Denbo Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 A few of my favourites..... The Tiny Topsy "After Marriage Blues" in the top right hand corner was titled "How You Changed" on Argo in the USA. I realise the Argo copy was released first in the USA, so really, my comment should read that the Argo title was changed, for some unknown reason, to "After Marriage Blues" over here. Does anybody know why??? Been bugging me for nigh on 40 years!!!
Pete S Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 (edited) Sorry about the quality of my photos, the camera hates the pink label and won't focus properly! Edited July 19, 2011 by Pete S
Pete S Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 that joe 90 does look nice pete.. yeah it does doesn't it - it also comes in a reall rare picture sleeve Mark, never seen one before, and of course it's got the Barry Gray autograph as well. I should just point out that this comes from my 60's oddities collection, not my Northern collection, I also have a great copy of The Avengers Theme (Laurie Johnson) with a picture sleeve and also the theme from Get Carter in the same box, both on the Pye label.
