Laura Lee (Artist Of The Week)

Recommended Posts

Guest Paul

Laura's Hot Wax tracks were brilliant, great songs and productions with intense vocals.

I could listen to these tracks all day long...

Since I Fell For You (album version)

Don't Leave Me Starving For Your Love

Two Lonely Pillows

It's Not What You Fall For (It's What You Stand For)

Rip Off

(If You Want To Try Love Again) Remember Me

Guess Who I Saw Today

At Last

Every Little Bit Hurts

When A Man Loves A Woman

...not to forget her Chess stuff and the Ric-Tic 45.

Guest Paul

With Rick Hall at the helm her Chess recordings are some of the most expressive recordings of the late 60's

I totally agree the Chess stuff is great, John, but I have a thing for the Hot Wax stuff because I played those albums over and over again when I was a kid. It started when I heard 'Rip Off' at the youth centre, I just fell in love with her voice.

I seem to have a thing about records I fell for when I was at that age. Another LP I still cherish is Contact by Feda Payne, still an underrated album to this day.

HERE ARE THREE OF MY FAVOURITES

Laura Lee - (if You Want To Try Love Again) Remember Me - Invictus

Laura Lee - If I'm Good Enough To Love (i'm Good Enough To Marry) - Hot Wax

Laura Lee - I Need It Just As Bad As You - Invictus

I AGREE WITH PAUL ON THE FREDA PAYNE CHERISH ALBUM

I DID NOT BUY MANY ALBUMS BUT I LOVE EVERY TRACK ON IT

Bang on Paul, my fave 3 of hers are all Hot Wax, "Remember Me" "Guess who I saw today" and "Since I fell for you" (album version) the latter being one of the greatest soul records ever ( IMHO)

Sadly although I love her voice, Laura is an artist that never benefited the productions nor the materials to seduce me. Only kept her 45 'if I'm good enough to marry...'. Seing this revived thread and willing to give her another "chance" wondering what else I could have missed, it's with great skepticism that I lent an ear to her version of the almighty cover of Holland, Dozier, Holland tune and now I need one. TUNE !
