Guest Jamie
Have noticed on a few threads recently free CD's getting a bit of discussion. My question is, what is your favourite free CD from an event, rather than just one from a CD swap? You can include tapes, before CD's were the norm. Was is for the tracklisting? Was it because of who compiled it? Or was it because it brings back special memories of the night every time you play it?? My personal faves are the Greatstone give-aways. Always plenty of stuff on there that go on the wants list. I would also include John & Ali Nightingales, but they aren't from a venue!! Here's our CD from the forthcoming Soulsville 2nd Anniversary All-Dayer on the 29th Oct. You're welcome to give your opinion on it, Good or Bad, yeah and Pete-S too 2. Guest ShaneH
good topic! i still adore the last cd i got from Greatstone Paul....however I still dont have the tracklisting (you got one Jamie?) The last Ponds Forge cd was very good too I know this may be an obvious thing to say but ideally my fave cd would have lots of things I aint heard before Technology makes it very cheap and easy nowadays to offer free cd's. Promoters please note......Punters like me love 'em!! Shane Shane Link to comment Social source share

Paul McKay
The four volumes given away by These Old Shoes at their Anniversaries, were fabulous compilations of tracks played by guest Djs over the preceeding year plus one or two each from Jo, Martin & PTP. However having made the guestlist in their last year the CD failed to appear. I spent many hours tracking down my favourite tracks from them, but was very disappointed when I found out that Buddy Smith and Robert Tanner were so expensive. Received the last one I've tracked down last week - Breaking point - Deena Johnson on Wild Deuce. Still play them all even now. Link to comment Social source share
Ady Potts
Me i`m not bothered really, but dont knock em when i get em!!,just give em away to girly`s.... Stick em on ebay Kenny, i see someone put one of the last Dome freebies on there & it made £19.01!! Would have been cheaper to come to the do, & spend the remaining £14.01 on booze. Daved
Paul, you're right. The These Old shoes CDs were excellent. I've also got a Wigan Orwell CD from about 4 years back from Steve Plumb. Most of the tunes were new to me at the time but have since become classics like Nathan Williams, Masterpeice, David Ruffin, Rosie Grier, Lou Ragand, Gems for Gem, Gloria Jay and loads more. Guest in town Mikey
Breaking point - Deena Johnson on Wild Deuce. Probably my fave on the first 2 CDs. I keep meaning to give Paul my address as he said he would send me the 3rd and 4th anni CDs, but I keep forgetting. My faves are the tapes given away by the Capitol lads, when they were in Shoreditch. Got some great tunes on them. Fave being Shamettes - Dont waste your time. Nickg
Indirectly the "Shades of Soul" tapes over the years were free (all monies received going to charity) these were/are brilliant and certainly opened my ears to some brilliant unheard of tracks over the years.
