I have quite a few missing numbers early on, can you help me fill them? The Willie Mitchell release I have as 108, actually has a release nunmber of 33108, i've assumed that the 33 is due to it getting a 12" release as the Billy Always 119 release was also released as a 12" as 33109. Did the Willie Mitchell get a 7" release? Lynn White's 118 release was originally on Sho Me. Do any of my missing numbers relate to other re-issues of previously released tracks? The Billy Always release 124 Take Me To The River, I have as a single sided demo, did it get issued with another song on the other side? I have release 3018 as a 12" release of Lanier & Co, this was around the time of the Syncopate/3-Way deals, did this actually get a Waylo re-release?
Guest Nick Harrison Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 (edited) John - sorry to be of little help, but out of the 23 Waylo black and silver 45's I have found and cross checked with your list, like you it's the more popular/bulkier 300? etc numbers I own. I feel very sure 3018 was re - released as a 12 by Waylo, after the demand of the earlier Waylo 45 102. Someone one here must own one, if not Ferris Lanier himself or his family ? But then producer and label owner Willie Mitchell also output some albums, did he not..........................just found Waylo LP 13008 from 1989 "Watch Me Now" - Otis Clay, if that helps somewhat or not. John Reed Posted May 29, 2011 Author Posted May 29, 2011 (edited) I thought the Watch Me Now LP had some great tracks and many of the Lynn White LP's had great moments too. I do have to say that for me release 3008 - David Hudson - Just A Feeling/Lets Get Back Together is IMO the best double-sider on the label and possibly of the 80's. Its remained a personal favourite of mine since I bought it as a new release. Edited May 30, 2011 by John Reed
Neiljon31 Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 John I have Billy Always selt titled LP from 1982, TAS12114. Doubt I can add anything 45's wise.
Guest Nick Harrison Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 Would agree with your post as above, a great time for the "little labels" as the UK issued Lynn White - Success(Timeless) and 3 ways released the 12 of Dancing In The Night and a Lanier and Co LP.
Guest Nick Harrison Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 I have Billy Always selt titled LP from 1982, TAS12114. Hi Neil - little or anything of note on this LP. Did you like me get mugged into purchasing it off Mike Godfrey (All America Records) cause I did and the Johnny Scott - Its Over LP on Portra.

One of the stronger releases - would agree with that, as its so vocally rich - pure soul, stands head and shoulders above many of it's stable mates and many of the indies release's during the eighties. Love the Lynn White also - Dont Let Success Turn Our Love Around. Thanks.
shute Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 (edited) Billy Always - I need you this came out as a 45 with picture sleeve on Waylo will try and find it out to confirm flip side and number labels were on the wrong side -- remenber that the flip was far better and a really good modern soul sound to it, wouldn't go a miss being played out at a modern do Edited May 30, 2011 by shute

I don't remember it as a US 7" release but I do know it as a Dutch 3 track CD with I Need You/One Of Them Thangs/One Bad Turn. If you could did it out I'd be eternally grateful. I remember the 45 was a slightly different mix to the LP version - nothing significant, just levels and tones. I imported a lot of Waylo stuff in the 1980s and had high hopes but I think they were a few years too late to make an impact. Best wishes, Paul
