I'm looking for photographs/flyers from the Abshot Soul Nights & the Newbury Nighters - particulary any taken on the Nights when we had Sam Dees or Jeff Perry live.

Many thanks

Hi Dave

Thank you for the reply mate, could you scan them & post them up pse if you are able. Of course if you didnt need one......... I was the promoter of the Uptown Down South events & have hardly anything to remember them by as we were usually too busy either making sure the nights/Nighters were running well or enjoying ourselves aswell.

I was wondering id any 'live' tapes exist too ???.

Russ I will have a look for them after the weekend, and went I find them will post them up.

It could be a while, cause I have stuff all over the place and not all together like normal people do.laugh.gif

You are more than welcome to have one, when they turn up.

Your Dave.

Hi Russ

All i have is my membership card [ no one can have it ] but i just thought i would say that the " uptown down south " were some of the highlights in my soul life. The Sam Dees night is etched in my memory & still gives me goosebumps , as are all the do`s i attended , the music policy was right up my street.

I just wanted to say a big thank you for what i believe we`re some of the best promotions i ever attended , DJ`s who pushed the boundaries of soul music & cared about their play lists, i always came away from one of your nights / niters with a list of tunes on my wants list that i had never heard before, the atmosphere & vibe was always electric. You had something very special going on & you deserve a lot of credit for your efforts.

I've got lots of the fliers, Russ. I'm away for a few days, but I'll get scanning when I can!

Ben, how are you mate.........that would be fantastic if you could scan em up. Will never forget your contributions which were such an integral part of it all.

BTW Can you remember the TV show which filmed at Abshott & we all went to the studio to watch the filming there with Lloyd & Julie. Well, I had a copy of the footage shot at Abshott (which was very good if I remember correctly). I lent it to Lloyd & have neve seen it again :). Dont spose you have a copy do you Ben ?.

We should get together mate for a beer or summat.....

Hi Russ,

Can remember fondly travelling down from Thorne with Paul & Sonia and the lovely welcome you gave to everyone as they walked in the door, genuine and heartfelt.

Seemed a bugger of a place for us to get to from oop north and if I remember rightly didn't a little worse for wear Mr Thorley make a gallant attempt at interviewing Sam Dees in the "dressing room" after. Didn't SD have his daughter with him?

Recollection may be a little rusty as we went down to Stoke Kings Hall the following night to see Sam Dees when KR had him on as a little payback for punters agrieved after one of the early Fleetwood weekenders, think Karen blagged free tickets for all our party (2 caravans worth of Hull Beer Monsters).

Also think we first met Keith & Maxine at your do, two of the nicest people you're likely to meet on this scene, and so funny with it.

Keep safe,

Pete

PS Know where you're coming from on the niter thread, not sure of title. Try get up to Boomerang sometime.

All good with me Russ. The Lloyd and Julie programme was an episode of a Meridian series called Home Truths. I might have a VHS of it somewhere. I'll have a look. I also have Hi8 footage of Sam Dees at the Colony Club but nothing to view it on or have it transferred! Also, Mark Randell filmed a short video diary at the Colony Club, again for some Meridian programme. Love to Jenny and hope to catch up soon! Cleethorpes?

I'm so pleased you have fond memories of the Sam Dees night........it was & still is a high light of my soul life.

Your recollections with regards to the DT interview are correct, but what happened to it is anybodies business, I do know there was a small bar provided in the Green Room & I can only guess it was used :D .

Maxine & Keith are dear friends who we seldom see these days, but along with Ben Summers & Lloyd Attrill they were part of the fabric of the Uptown Down South promotions as resident DJ's, they also helped in countless other ways too.

Thank you for your response & kind words............BTW Boomerang would be MY cup of Char, but difficult at present as I am working abroad........but when the opportunity arises I'll be up like a shot.......!

If you have the 'Home Truths' vid with all the out takes from Abbshot Ben, if you can let me have a copy, I'll have it transfrred to DVD & do a copy for you too.

Is there any way the Sam Dees footage could be transffered to DVD............I would be more than happy to pay for this to be done if neccessary........& it would be for personal use only obviously :D .........remember the negotiations at the time Ben, so I wouldnt betray your trust.

Remember Marks video diary too, wasnt there also something on late night music TV once aswell..........maybe that was Marks thing ?.

No Cleggers this year mate as I'm still out in the desert, but hope to catch up soon......

Thx for your help Ben

Best Russ
