M is ONLY for reissues / new releases

M- is a pretty much unplayed record for me – any obvious signs that a record has been played and I usually downgrade to an EX+

EX+ is a very strong grade for me – just showing some signs of being played but no noise / cue burn / crackle / styrene burn at all.

VG+ is for records that have obviously seen some wear and have had a good few plays and may even have light intro crackle but play very, very well.

VG is for records with quite a bit of wear and surface markings and some noise / crackle but still a very good player

VG- is my lowest grade and VG- records for me are in bad shape – lots of sound quality deterioration and many, many surface marks – not nice.

Maybe…LOL…. )

7032

Cherish 'For You' / 'Tomorrow's Child' (DT / USA / 1979 / Ex+) £10

( I've always had a soft spot for this dinky little 70s NS dancer – real cool / unusual – great rhythm section and excellent backing vox – love the bongos too – if this was rarer / more obscure, people would be fighting to pay £500 for it – totally under-rated…lovely copy too…actually reminds me a lot of Hokis Pokis 'Nowhere' which as ya know is a big fave of mine…flip also well worth a listen – Willie Gay-produced… )

Bailey an LP deal and recorded Tom Jones's more soulful stuff like 'Love, Love, Love' etc – real unusual and quirky little disco/funk with mini-moogs and lovely basslines – almost 2 Step in feel – very slightly cheesy but we love that anyways – actually reminds me a bit of The Jones Girls? 12" Singles:

Ashford & Simpson 'Bourgie, Bourgie' / 'Love Don't Make It Right' (WB / UK / 1977 / M-) £60

Has hit $300 on the evil one over the past year or so…looks unplayed to me…and in it's original custom sleeve too…can I stress again that this seems UNPLAYED? 1202

Chic 'Hangin' (Atlantic / UK / 1982 / M-/M-) £10

The Coachouse Rhythm Section 'Nobody Got Time' / 'Time Warp' (Ice / UK / 1977 / Ex+) £30

( Always, ALWAYS been murder to find this one and it's UK-only too – groundbreaking Electro / Disco from Mr Eddy Grant – was huge in the NYC clubs as a new release, and in the early-80s (especially at The Loft where it gained 'Loft Classic' status) The intrumental flip is, if anything, even heavier….rarely bettered….stunning copy here and I've seen this hit over £100 in the not too distant past…the price is only going one way.. )

Skip Mahoney 'Janice' (Salsoul / USA / 1980 / Ex) £30

( Still sounding every bit as good and fresh as when I first heard it right back in the early-80s as a teenager – SO hard to find now and definitely one of ***THE*** best records ever released on Salsoul…if anybody wants to disagree, then I'll have to punch their lights out – okay? Noticed how much the 7″ is going for nowadays? Over £100 and this 12″ mix is SO much better / longer too…! Killer intro…in it's Salsoul custom bag…few scuffs here and there – purely superficial – so priced down from £50… )

Wizards of Ooze 'Trippin' / 'Fuzzball' / 'Gladiola' (Backbone / Belgium / 1994 / M-) £30

( Well – I can't believe this is already nearly 20 years old…!! I RAVED about this group when they first popped up – they literally blew me away – here we have a 12" promo of some of three of their very finest toons. 'Trippin' is just amazing – like a warm summer breeze on a cold and cloudy day – this piece never shows up for sale and it's a promo copy too…simply amazing…HIGHLY RECOMMENDED… )

LPs:

Elkie Brooks 'Live And Learn' (A&M / UK / 1979 / Ex+/M-) £8

( Her best work – the version of 'The Rising Cost Of Love' on here is a killer…also done by Jean Terrell, Cut Glass, Grey & Hanks etc – minor wear to sleeve, vinyl appears unplayed…'Who's Making Love' is also great… )

Sf02

Dave & Ansil Collins 'In Toronto' (G Clef / Canada / 1970s / M-/M-) £25

( Again – stunning shape…appears 99% unplayed…well-rare Canadian-only LP with some top Soul/Funk/Reggae cuts like 'Just My Imagination' , 'Baby I Need Your Love' , 'It's Summer' but the KILLER here is their well-funky version of 'Do Your Thing' which really is a funky/reggae bomb…! Check it… )

Ice 'The Afro-Instrumental LP' (Musidisc / France / 1970s / Ex+/M-) £40

( Another one I've not seen in years amd years…beautiful Afro-Funk/Jazz LP with all of the Cane & Abel and Lafayette Afro Rock players involved – 'Racubah' is the track for me…nice piece- great sleeve too…check the clip below…amazing condition…if you like Bobby Boyd Congress, Badchild etc, you'll also dig this, I guarantee you…'Ozan Koukle' also gets me – such a beautiful tune… )

Sf09

Byron Lee & The Dragonaires 'Reggay Hot, Cool & Easy' (Dynamic / Canada / Ex/M-) £25

( Yet another amazing 'Reggae Got Soul & Funk' LP from Byron Lee – so many great cuts here 'Shaft' , 'Hot Reggay' , 'For Your Precious Love' etc..sleeve still in shrink but with a little mildew and vinyl appears 99% unplayed… )

Sf12

The Majestics 'Instrumental R&B' (Majestic / Canada / 1960s / Ex+/M-) £20

( Silly price on this one – killer Soul / Funk LP with 'Crow Suey') ex-Keb Darge Deep Funk spin), 'Philly Dog' , 'Respect' – amazing Canadian set – exemplary condition… )

Sf13

The Majestics 'Otis Redding' (Arc / Canada / 1960s / Ex+/Ex+) £10

( £10 for this is just a sin – but – I have to sell it now so somebody gonna grab themselves a bargain here – 'Mr Pitiful' , 'Satisfaction' , 'Respect' etc etc – beautiful copy here too, no catch folks – just a g-e-n-u-i-n-e bargain… )

Sf14

Nina Simone 'It Is Finished' (RCA / USA / 1974 / Ex+/Ex+) £15

( Gorgeous copy 'Funkier Than A Mosquito's Tweeter' and this one's a promo too… )

Sf18

The Soul Stirrers 'Heritage Vol 1' (Jewel / USA / 1974 / Ex+/VG+) £5

( Nice collection of Gospel-Soul from these landmark artists – including one Sam Cooke – excellent LP with loadsa nice tracks on it – sleeve is pristine and still in shrink – vinyl is a bit grunny / dusty and needs a good clean… )

Sf20

Joe Bataan 'Subway Joe' (Fania (gold) / USA / 1960s / Ex+/Ex+) £75

( Massively indemand!! This really is a lovely copy too (heavy OG gold press too – not a flimsy 70s cloud press) with 'Subway Joe' , 'Special Girl' , 'Ponte En Algo' and 'Magic Rose'…top Latin piece…'Juanito' , 'Nuevo Jala Jala' also killer – 8 tracks and 6 of em all worthy of yr love…as ever – slightly under-graded for ya – most other dealers would blithely slap a M- / M- grade on this… )

L03

Willie Colon 'El Malo' (Fania (clouds) / USA / 1960s / Ex+/Ex+) £20

( For me – and many others – his best 60s LP here on an (early 70s south american press – so many Boogaloo / Funk / Jazz tracks on here like 'Jazzy' , 'Willie Baby' , 'Willie Whopper' , 'Skinny Papa' etc etc – absolutely murder to find folks – and – this copy appears barely played… )

L05 https://www.youtube.c...h?v=S07o4JQKWok

Dianne and Carole with the Latin Whatchamacalits 'Feeling The Pain' (Speed / USA / 1960s / M-/M-) £90

( One of THE very best LPs on the whole label with 'Feelin The Pain' , 'I See The Lovelight' , 'The Fuzz' , 'The Boy Across The Street' , 'Latin Rhythm' , 'Baby Don't You Cry Now' etc etc – quality set…lovely copy too…in fact, this is probably THE rarest AND cleanest Latin LP of thewhole batch – still in it's shrinkwrap…Northern, Popcorn, Boogaloo – it's all here… )

The Latinaires 'Like It Is' (Cotique / USA / 1960s / Ex+/M-) £60

( Yet another stunning LP this month…when dis you EVER see so many ace Latin LPs for sale all in one place? Sh'mon…….another one STILL in it's shrinkwrap too – only graded down from M- cos it's got a drill hole – the vinyl appears unplayed? One of THE rarest Cotique LPs ever…in A1 shape – tracks? Here goes…'Panama' , 'Acaba' , 'Society' , 'My Love' – just a joy to be able to offer this for y'all… )

L08

Bobby Matos 'My Latin Soul' (Philips / USA / 1968 / M-/M-) £100

( Best / cleanest copy I've EVER had / seen, yep – still TIGHT in it's shrinkwrap…what can ya say about this LP that hasn't already been said?? Dunno, but, let me try – if I HAD to name one Latin LP I'd keep from this List – this would 1000% be IT – just knocks me out – a total joy – so many tracks 'Tema De Alma Latina (Latin Soul Theme)' , 'Mambo Maxims' , 'Raices' , 'Richie's Boogaloo' , 'Hot and Greasy' – listening to 'Tema De Alma Latina' right now as I type – OMG – it just don't STOP giving…never EVER bettered – I always laugh aloud at just how 'disinterested' the female vocalist sounds on this LP…GRAIL…covers all areas of Latin music – Descarga, Boogaloo, Soul, Funk…right, I'm off for a lie-down now…used to make £300 regularly back in the halcyon days, believe me – grab a bargain… )

L09

Monguito Santamaria 'Hey Sister' (Fania / USA / 1970 / Ex/VG+) £75

( Lovely copy of Mongo's son's best AND rarest LP….few scuffs to wax (inaudible) and bit of scribble/slight yellowing to rear sleeve but otherwise clean – loadsa trax – 'Hey Sister' , 'El Dorado' , 'Work Out' , 'Monguito's Theme' , 'Chango' – just a feast of Latin music…!! )

Various Artists 'Super Salsa Greats Vol III' (Fania / France / 1979 / Ex+/Ex+) £10

( Ok – a French comp – but – a good one just the same with some great tracks like Ray Barretto 'Indestructible', Tito Puente 'Nina y Senora', Johnny Pacheco 'Azucar Mami' and tracks from other Latin legends like Eddie Palmieri, Bobby Valentin etc etc…super comp… )
