John Reed Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 (edited) I've got some time on my hands and i looked to see if there was a disco of Deesu on the web and couldn't find one, so decided to build one, which has left me with a couple of questions. I'd like to see if someone has a scan of the Wilbert Harrison release Was release 316 by Joe Haywood the last Deesu release distributed by Dover? I don't have 317/318 and the Buddy Skipper and Eldridge Holmes don't mention Dover even though they're still under the old numbering system. Under the new numbering system I can't seem to find any reference for release 45-304 which is sandwiched between two Eldridge Holmes releases. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated by this sad anorak Edited May 14, 2011 by John Reed
Chalky Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Daisy Burris is In Love To Stay/Four Strong Winds There's no listing for 45-304 in R&B Indies. Then there is the 3000 series which you have these listed as 301 and 302 but in R&B Indies they are 3001/3002??? 300 series then kicks off with 303 according to R&B Indies (not always right) different label design for first number (hyphen between E-U) DEE-SU 3001 Wilbert Harrison - Clementine (205-1723) b/w Sentimental Journey (205-1724) DEESU 3002 Maurice Williams - Beng Without You (2-5-1725) b/w Baby Baby (205-1726) The 45-300 series are 1970 and have the design with what looks like a coin with head on it and Deesu Records Francais going around it.
Guest Dave Turner Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 (edited) John, nice disgog mate of a great label. What's with this Gospel Cavaliers on Deesu 1006 ? You Can't Make It On Your Own / Jesus is waiting Sansu Enterprises Marsaint Music Edited May 12, 2011 by Dave Turner
Chalky Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 all the tracks 3001/3002, 3003 to 316 appear to have the same matrix numbering, 205-1723 and son on. 317 no matrix details. 318, 319, 320 have DS-1000 to DS1006 The 70's releases have DR-430 to DR 443. There appears to be one other release by the Gospel Cavaliers - You Can Make It On Your Own/? (1006) dunno where this fits in?
Chalky Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 bugger it, I've scanned the relevant page in R&B Indies, hope you can read it, be easier than working out what I wrote
John Reed Posted May 12, 2011 Author Posted May 12, 2011 (edited) Chalky/Dave, Thanks for the info. Maybe I should go and see if I can get copies of the R&B Indies books to save time and effort, but that then takes the fun out of doing it...... Cheers, John Edited May 12, 2011 by John Reed
Chalky Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 I think the R&B Indies has sold out/out of print now John??? I think I had the last copy of issue 4 off Bob McGrath so you might have to keep doing it the fun way
Guest Dave Turner Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 (edited) John, found the below on the Gospel Cavaliers 45 1979 which seems way out of synch. John Reed Posted May 12, 2011 Author Posted May 12, 2011 I started to think I'd got it wrong regarding Maurice Williams - Being Without You/Baby Baby, being released as 302. I've just checked again, maybe it got released twice under the old and new numbes? Never heard of those 600 numbers, any chance of an upload into Refosoul?
JOE TORQUAY Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 (edited) here's 304 DEESU # 304 ZODIACS # THIS FEELING / MAY I deesu # 303 daisy burris # in love to stay / Four Strong Winds Edited May 12, 2011 by JOE TORQUAY
boba Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 here's 304 DEESU # 304 ZODIACS # THIS FEELING / MAY I deesu # 303 daisy burris # in love to stay / Four Strong Winds he had that 304 # listed above, the record he needs is 45-304 which is apparently part of a different deesu series
mshoals Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Never heard of those 600 numbers, any chance of an upload into Refosoul? Here's Deesu 602: Gospel Cavaliers - Live My Life - Deesu Gospel Cavaliers - Love One Another - Deesu
mshoals Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 3001 - Wilbert Harrison - Clementine/Sentimental Journey This is 301, not 3001:
mshoals Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Was release 316 by Joe Haywood the last Deesu release distributed by Dover? I don't have 317/318 and the Buddy Skipper and Eldridge Holmes don't mention Dover even though they're still under the old numbering system. I think 316 is indeed the last Deesu release distributed by Dover, 317/318 also don't mention Dover:
mshoals Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Under the new numbering system I can't seem to find any reference for release 45-304 which is sandwiched between two Eldridge Holmes releases. Just a guess, but maybe 45-304 was reserved for Eldridge Holmes - Working In The Coalmine / A Love Problem, which was picked up by Decca. (Deesu 320 was also released on Decca.)
Epic Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 The are only two things you need to know about the Deesu label :- 1) Maurice Williams "Being Without You" is on it. 2) It is the finest record ever put on to vinyl.
John Reed Posted May 13, 2011 Author Posted May 13, 2011 (edited) Just a guess, but maybe 45-304 was reserved for Eldridge Holmes - Working In The Coalmine / A Love Problem, which was picked up by Decca. (Deesu 320 was also released on Decca.) That was my thought as well, thanks for all the additional info Edited May 13, 2011 by John Reed
