Absolutely brilliant, I remember it p*ssing it down & everyone being soaked, which gave an eerie mist of body heat rising up as everyone dried out as it heated up, hardly anyone knew Betty Wright or her music but she enthralled & captivated the crowd, without a doubt the best act to grace the Casino, even the record bar almost emptied!!!

Take care,be safe & remember,"Where is the love, where is the love, you promised me",

Spot.

I am not wanting to appear picky here Peter , but I would have thought that most people who attended that night , would have been familar with " Where Is The Love " that was played extensively on " the scene " that came from her album

" Danger - High Voltage " , which was released the previous year .

Malc I appreciate what your saying but they maybe knew one song or so & I seem to remember the majority didn't really know who or what she was about, most people went to the Casino for the dance beat & drugs, allegedly or so I've heard but not according to Mr Binmanly who said there was never a problem (I heard that too, never a problem getting some) & everyone was high on love & Cola, anyway that's besides the point, what I mean is not many were Soul aficionados & usually were there for other reasons, mainly illegal, unlike your good self.

Take care,be safe & remember,"But it was just my 'magination, once again.Running away with me,tell you it was just my 'magination, running away with me",

Spot.:(

p.s. Bet you had to check dates first before replying? If not then Dementias not setting in & stop showing off.

i can imagine love dont grow on a love tree bringing the house down!!! come on catriona find the tape ,,ill help u lol

Love Don't Grow On A Love Tree was huge at the Casino at the time

Betty Wright was sensational - no-one seemed to care that they only knew two or three songs

I do remember one wag in the crowd shouting for "Aint' No Soul" in a quite moment

As for the roof climbers _ hello again you nutters!

Daftest thing I ever saw

I was in the cloakroom when the skylight opened and someone passed me their bag - was it you?!?!?!?!!:(

I was there too and I do remember Betty sang a lot of slower numbers that did'nt really go down too well. There were a few comments along these lines made in Blues and Soul.

But the night itself was brilliant.

I ve got a feeling I lent it to Paul Donelly ...the tape that is.

If not its in the garage...probably... but I m not sure.

Do you really want me to look...there s frogs out there and all sorts.

Cant remember handing my bag to anyone, long long time ago now, i remember going uo there and there must have been 100 or so up there and that drop at the side of the building!!!Must have been mental to do that, but great memories of a true historic night at Wigan Casino, that night amongst others will remain very strong in my mind.

For a change Peter , I knew the year of the album's release without having to look it up , so mark it down as showing off :D

Wasn't she one of the 1st acts at the allnighter?

I have to say I didn't go to see any of the live artists at the Casino, back then it spoiled the night for me, all I wanted to do was dance and gab!
