My dearest friend has just got a record she really loves at a very good price. Not in mint condition but it plays with some clicks. She's told me that it looks like nail varnish on the grooves. How would you remove it? I haven't seen the record in question as she's "up north".

I've had a record with nail varnish on the lable. That came off with non-accitone nail varnish remover ,But on the grooves it would depend on the record and what its made of.Best bet would be to try all the usual cleaners fist before getting more aggresive with it.I wish her the best of luck with it.

Lol Geoff I thought you had been painting your nails for a minute lol , why not get an old record from a shop for about 10p that isn't soul and experiment on the old record before you apply it to your friends prized record :hatsoff2:

Thanks for the replies, I will pass them onto my friend. I think the record is probably styrene, it's Marion Stewart's I Must Be Losing You. As I'm no expert on these matters does it make a difference in how you try to clean it as opposed to vinyl?
