Cant Believe Ive Never Heard This Before

Recommended Posts

Ive been loading all my soul lps onto my ipod. Loads of them. Anyway there I am tiling the new bathroom, ipod blasting out, when this tune pops up. It immediately stops me in my tracks. What the hell is this tune? It grabs me so much Im dancing round the bathroom like a right good un. I cant believe that Ive never heard it before. I go and search it out on lp and find its by The Dynamites...Dont Leave Me This Way. Why do I not know this song? It dawns on me that there must be tons of tunes I dont know. When was it played?,was it ever played? was it a big tune for someone? Who is the lead singer? I love his voice. I wish I had payed more attention to the tunes of the day instead of being monged out and tunnel visioned. I must have been in a venue when this was booming out. But Ive never heard it before in my life. Its now one of my faves. What a find.

Is this the one?

Sounds like an old wheel tune to me but I could be wrong

Malc burton will know for sure

Yeah. I found it in refosoul. Old wheel tune?.....Eighties spin? It makes sense to be an eighties spin to me cos Id finished my venue days by 81. How come it got missed in the Mecca, Casino days? Or did it?

Pretty sure it got spun at Wigan, can't remember if covered up or not. Someone will be along to confirm one way or t'other.

I've got it on Delores, spun it out odd time or two couple years back, Mick H spun it out too.

Will find out if it was a wheel tune or not but as the guy who has done the YouTube has started it with a torch badge perhaps that's where it was first spun?

Then like sonmany others fell out of favour with d jays only got played a couPle of times at Wigan then got rediscovered by you guys in the 8ts ??

Great old sounding soul tune that I can't remember back in the 7ts at Wigan good thread!!

I seem to remember this being around circa '75/'76 but only a couple of people had it to my recollection. I'm pretty sure Sam had it in his box at the time. Never heard it out back then though........

its rubbish

Come on mate, you cant say its rubbish. Not your taste maybe. But not rubbish. Its got pretty much everything you could want in a northern soul disc. Earnest vocals, girlie voices, a great chugging break in the middle, great horns and a sax hidden away in there. I wish Id have danced to this back in the day thats for sure.

Certainly got no spins in the 7ts as it didnt have the right sound for then. I remember buying it in around 1976 and thinking that it was way below average; stuck it in the collection as it would have been impossible to resell it and a few years later sounded marginally better. A Keb spin for a few weeks in the mid 8ts and then when he found out it was easily available dropped it from his playlist. As Dave says, it was a soul pack 45; the usual story; either you could get it from Soul Bowls £1 special page on the weekly list, or from their famous soul packs of a 100 different soul records. John A. would have had 500 plus, mint copies if it went into the soul packs, so not a rare record and even today a relatively easy 45 to find here in Britain.
