Guest Matt Male Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 what the f*** is happening to this scene.why dont we just start playing prog rock Prog rock, pop and everything else was played in the 70s.
Wiggyflat Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 How do I vote?. I like it as a record and would file it in the mod/beat section .....but as a northern record...no.Just off to dig out the first Yes Lp.....mmm Looking Around could get spins at the more progressive venues.
Ezzie Brown Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 (edited) its ok.....i wouldnt buy or play it , .........deffo not a northern room play for me.....and not soul ..........but 4 in the morning in a packed oldies / standard sounds kinda room...or mod night .............would have plenty of dancers up............ ..maybe me ............heard a lot worse played with a lot less going for it......... regards.ez Edited April 26, 2011 by ezzie brown
Guest Matt Male Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 mmm Looking Around could get spins at the more progressive venues. No it wont. Why do people assume upfront venues are prepared to play any old crap?
Guest Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 No it wont. Why do people assume upfront venues are prepared to play any old crap? How would you know till they played it,too late then.......you've booked dj's who are proud of playing crap before now, never booked me though and i wouldn't play it absolutely not
Rom1 Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 its ok.....i wouldnt buy or play it , .........deffo not a northern room play for me.....and not soul ..........but 4 in the morning in a packed oldies / standard sounds kinda room...or mod night .............would have plenty of dancers up............ ..maybe me ............heard a lot worse played with a lot less going for it......... regards.ez I agree with you, it's ok It's not "northern" but if you like 60's beat/mod style (Richard Kent Style, Fleur de lys...) or white soul bands or Garage soul (The Mob, Burning bush, Chapter 5...) is it the worse?
Ezzie Brown Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 glad someone agrees with me . a pretty rare event.......cant comment further as i dont know anything about garage /beat music, ....or much else ....ez

Liljimmycrank Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Ey up Ken. No need to apologise for mentioning what i played in the freestyle room at Rugby. I certainly won't be offended that you don't like a tune someone else has played, it wouldn't be the first time! ha Will openly admit it's not the most soulful of records however its certainly danceable and felt like a good time on the night to stick it on; the dancefloor reaction suggested i was right cos it was full for the duration of the record. It's a bit like Stanky get funky, and that RL Burnside thing. I think they're both sh*te records, not very soulful etc. However people like them and can dance along to them so DJ's give em air time. RL Burnside would've been better suited at the Hacienda in the early 90's in my opinion! Fact is it's horses for courses really. Some people liked it on the night and on here afterwards and said so (freedom of speech and all that), some on here don't like it. I certainly didn't big it up before putting it on, nor afterwards or on here. If others have, that's their choice. If it goes massive, great. If it doesn't, i won't lose any sleep. I'll write you a credit note for the 3 minutes of your life i stole while you stood in the freestyle room and listened to it mate! Azza

Guest Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 'Got any Quo mate?' Not bad for someone who covered up a B J Thomas record
Ion T Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 I think B J Thomas has a bit of form on this scene... PS Oh, and let's not ignore the fact that it's a. northern & b. good
Guest Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 I think B J Thomas has a bit of form on this scene... PS Oh, and let's not ignore the fact that it's a. northern & b. good And off coarse it sounds like B J Thomas and no-one else. Infact i have heard "Shakey Jakes" out more, if that is not form throw away the form books.
Ion T Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 I think I should point out that both Ken and I agree that Shakey Jakes (sounds like Tom Waits to me) is not to our personal taste....
