Soulman Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Can you remember what happened to my copy either of you two??? Did I sell it / lend it when I was down that way. I'm sure I didn't do anything with it and someone was asking about it a few weeks ago and I remember having one. Hope you're both well. Steve H

Many thanks Andy just as a footnote to that andy, the p-vine re-issue had the side two running order incorrect, but they realised their mistake and on the innersleeve you can see they printed it again underneath before they distributed the lp...obviously not wanting to go to the expense of producing another inner!. would have liked this on turbo,...but never mind,...i'll just have to learn japanese
Andy Rix Posted April 23, 2011 Author Posted April 23, 2011 Sorry Steve No idea ....don't even recall you having it Andy

Guest matty Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 HAD BOTH COPIES AND IMO I THINK THE P-VINE COPY SOUNDS BETTER THATS JUST ME...MATTY

Simon T Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 As far as I understood the P-Vine was taken directly from the Turbo LP and "cleaned" up a bit? Does the Turbo L.P. version of 'Sweet Memories' have the right/left channel drop out about half way through too?
Anoraks Corner Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Does the Turbo L.P. version of 'Sweet Memories' have the right/left channel drop out about half way through too? Hi Andy, I've finally got around to checking the Turbo copy and yes, the left channel briefly drops out within 'Sweet Memories'. Also, please note: The Turbo copy is self-titled and not called, 'Having you Around'. The label just states The New Sound...see picture below. The track running order on the labels (as there is no order on the sleeve) is different to what is in the grooves...'Sweet Memories' actually plays as track #2 not #5, and the rest just bounce down by one, if you see what I mean? As for the sound quality...top heavy on the bass yes, but, not as bad as some make it out to be...sounds fine if you simply adjust the bass down!
binsy Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Thanks for the tip Dave, I've got the P vine copy but was disappointed in the sound quality as Japanese albums are normally excellent.
Guest Dave Turner Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 (edited) Thanks for the tip Dave, I've got the P vine copy but was disappointed in the sound quality as Japanese albums are normally excellent. As I understand it some of the tracks were re-cut for the Turbo LP. I'm presuming they were recorded under the very same conditions as Robert Tanner's Megatone 45s. According to John Ridley's page on Tanner they were recorded in Dawson Smith's basement on a one-channel recorder with cardboard partitions. https://www.sirshambl...rt_tanner2.html Although when listening one wishes the quality was better but in a way I find that ultra-low budget recorded in a basement sound appealing ................. raw street level soul (or below it in this case). I know absolutely zilch about sound engineering but I suppose it's very limited what one can do with a poor quality product. Sow's ear and silk purse come to mind. Great album Edited May 29, 2011 by Dave Turner
