Hi everyone,

Currently getting into the crossover sound quite a lot and would like some quality recommendation's please.

From great cheapies to expensive rarities. All welcome

I know a lot of people class all 70's as crossover but my definition is not so much what I class as "70's modern" by the like's of James Walsh Gypsy Band, Midnight, etc.

I'm more tuned in to 60's & 70's songs along the lines of........

Reggie Soul (World Of Ectasy)

Ann Sexton (I Still Love You)

Dells (Closer)

Houston Outlaws (Ain't No Tellin')

Marva Joseph (One More Chance)

Hesitations (Is That The Way...)

Lee Williams & Cymbals (It's Everything About You....)

Serena Johnson (All Work....)

So............. anything in that vien you can recommened would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance everyone

All the best,

Eddie

Hiya Eddie,

Here's a great crossover track with a 60's feel, I found one in Record & Tape exchange Camden recently it should'nt break the bank.

Charlie Hodges-Loving you is beautiful (Calla)

Or how about this one.

Three shades of soul-Being in love (Enjoy)

This is a cracker too.

Leon Haywood-You don't have to see me cry (Decca)

Hope these help.

Johnny.

What's your name now Johnny,,,,Mark Houghton.....

One of my fave cheapies and for me the epitome of crossover, another on Calla, Jean Wells - What Have I Got To Lose

Current spin for me, Margie Joseph - Promise Me Your Love off her 74 LP, might be on a 45 - i've not checked.....

And a pricier one i've been digging out again recently - LaShawn Collins - What You Gonna Do Now - Sincere

Cheers Gareth

Bumped into Del last time I was in, he was raiding the reggae section.....small world.

Johnny.

Might as well add this one to the list, since Girf has gone with Lashawne Collins.

Jackie Beavers - Bring me all youe heartaches (Grand Land)

Four "Dab of Soul" Cds should be dropping thru your door tomorrow morning mate...might be a few on there you like!

Agree with what the guys said about Jean Wells and Lashawn Collins...epitome of crossover soul for me.

Cheers, Chris

Music of the devil & to be avoided at all costs but if you still insist on listening to it you could pop into the Filthy Soul do in London this weekend.

I'll be there

You could do worse than search out some of the early Goldmine Modern and Crossover series of CDs from the early/mid 90s; also their Modern Millionaires CDs. You should be able to pick them up cheaply on eBay - whilst the recording quality is not brilliant (but still very listenable), there's loads of great crossover tracks on them.

They formed the basis of many of my crossover/modern wants lists over the years - still some on them I've yet to acquire.

Cheap crossover track to search out - The Modulations - 'Hopelessly in Love with You' on Buddah (£25 - £30 should do the trick)

Hope this helps

......and as a shameless plug I've got Jeanne Burton on Cotton and the Escort's Sing A Happy Song up on th'evilbay... too much towards the modern-y sound maybe?
