Patto Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Got a Copy of this on a Vault Demo some years ago.The record is northern soul Perfection,a total stormer.Heard it played out several times in recent years.Did this record get any action at past big venues it must have, and who played it first and where.Any info please
Guest Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Everybody everywhere at one time, used to have a green issue i have played at the 100club more than once.
Guest audiavant Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Had this since late 70s.First issue on Omen,I think.(someone may correct that).Like you say-brilliant sound.Dont ever recall it having major plays.Heard it at Keele a few times courtesy of Butch.Must have had an outing at the Casino, was on Soul Bowl lists so Mr.A would have had a few.Cant remember who got to it first, though.

Russoul1 Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 banging tune, only problem i find with the vault release is the sound quality, really bassy blows your eardrums out!! lol, is the omen release the same? or is it just me....... russ
Guest audiavant Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 It has had major plays. All depends where you go I suppose. That doesnt tell us anything really.Name some venues, Ive said what I thought,so can you elaborate and maybe you should have said "All depends where you went" unless you mean it gets a lot of action nowadays.
Chalky Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 That doesnt tell us anything really.Name some venues, Ive said what I thought,so can you elaborate and maybe you should have said "All depends where you went" unless you mean it gets a lot of action nowadays. I would have said this was in classic oldie category? Had plenty of action over the years. Heard it countless times over the years all over the place.

Thats the first time i heard it myself at the Keele nighters, but never seen it on any casino playlists or stafford. anyone out there heard it played in the 70s and who discovered it.
Guest Dave Turner Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Deffo at least early Wigan ie late '73 or early '74 Used to be in the old B&S venue ads "Hear sounds like" Wooden Nickels etc etc etc etc

Went / go. It has been played for a lot of years and is still getting played a lot now. Like Chalky I would put this in the classic oldie catagory. Even remember Keb playing it at the 100 club.

Like Chalky I would put this in the classic oldie catagory. Even remember Keb playing it at the 100 club. Of course its a classic oldie i realise that, there are hundreds of classic oldies.Usually with class records like this someone pins it to a particular first play, first D,J,first venue etc etc. Just never heard anyone claim it and was surprised as most of the big sounds are associated with a time place or D.J thats all

I think the first time I remember hearing it played out was when Keb played it at the 100 club, must have been the mid 80s.

Must have borrowed it of me when we all lived at Kebs how do people remember the first time they heard a record is beyond me good though
Jumpinjoan Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Must have borrowed it of me when we all lived at Kebs how do people remember the first time they heard a record is beyond me good though It wasn't the first time I'd heard it - it was the first time I heard it out. I only remember it was Keb because I thought it strange that he would play it with him being all 60s newies and that
John Elias Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 sold my VAULT copy last year, sure it was styrene and sound quality deffo not as good as OMEN to my ears anyway, think Steve Thomas still spins it occasionally.

Guest Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 You are right, the first issue is on Omen. Still nice to have on Vault though! I had a copy for years before I heard it played out, and that was Tonys Empress Ballroom nighter in Blackburn . Proper storming Northern Soul!
