Guest Gavin Page Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 I thought they were all cheap once mate apart from the real one off's?
Guest Matt Male Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 OK we all have bought BIG MONEY records at some point..... but so many quality tracks are passed over because the PRICE DONT FIT.. ...SO GUYS ..GIVE YOUR OPINION.. I'd be amazed if there was anyone out there who thought price = quality. I always thought price = rarity+popularity plenty of rare and popular records out there which imo are shit and like you say plenty of common quality records as well I don't DJ, but if i did i'd play Honey Child - Bobby Bland everytime (unless it cleared the dancefloor) £8 record. Matt

Simon T Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 You can pick up a copy of Little Dooley - It's Got To Be Now Or Never for £5 on either Red Ruby or North Bay; it's got to be the most underated, undervalued, but brilliant record ever.

Brilliant & undervalued yes - but underated !! No way. Everytime these kind of threads pop up this is ALWAYS mentioned. Or is it always just you Simon I usually find its the quid bootfair records that fill the floor better than any of yer pricier items - doing it for me in the past - The Isley Brothers - That Lady, Harold Melvin - Where Are All My Friends, Jimmy Ruffin - Tell Me What You Want - or what about a bit of jazz to throw you off balance Girf

Chalky Posted October 9, 2005 Posted October 9, 2005 (edited) I've always had faith in cheap records and I've always tried to feature cheap obtainable records in my sets. Not all a tenner like but quite a few under £30. There are 1000's of cheap records out there, you just need the patience to trawl through them all. Edited October 9, 2005 by chalky

Cheap records are my main purchases these days. Honey Cone -"if I cant fly" Little Milton-"let me back in" Billy Stewart-"what have I done" are all £5 records that have pleasured my ears in the last few years mind you I did buy a Basic Black and pearl "There will come a time "for $3.00 a while ago and it seems to have got really popular and has started to get silly price wise down to demand I suppose.Any of the cheapies we are talking about could rocket in price given exposure

Guest Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 I think the price of a record is a statistic..period, although obviously an important one as far as peoples bank accounts are concerned, surely any self respecting collector/dj buys a record because he/she enjoys the sound that emits from the speakers. I'm certain there are folks in this scene of ours that do chase "Trophy" records, guess it's just a trait in some Human beings, the need to be seen with the most expensive record/car/house.etc, but hopefully the majority of vinyl collectors will buy a record based totally on musical merit, and of course that does include records where the price can reach 3 and 4 figures. The dearest record on my playlist was £35 (inc postage), the cheapest £3 from a secondhand shop. But in all honesty I think the only time that price comes into it, is when people are selling stuff. Price doesn't always equal worth!
