in a world where prices are beyond most mere mortals..

how many of us have faith in a cheap record...and playin it.,in a scene where £1000 is common place

we all like to think we have a "GOOD EAR" for a tune..........

should we be unsure to play out a £10 record...?????

are we worried about the reaction on the dancefloor..........??????????????

i would like to think most of us have................IMO

OK we all have bought BIG MONEY records at some point.....

but so many quality tracks are passed over because the PRICE DONT FIT..

...SO GUYS ..GIVE YOUR OPINION..

10 records that can be still picked up for a TENNER or UNDER...(I THINK).....but still excellent ...IMO

NEWBY & JOHNSON - I WANT TO GIVE YOU MY EVERYTHING...UK MERCURY.....

THE MOB - ID LIKE TO SEE MORE OF YOU....UK AMERICAN RECORDS.....

Z.Z.HILL - UNIVERSAL LOVE.....US COLUMBIA........

SCIENTISTS OF SOUL - BE THAT A WAY SOMETIMES.........US KASHE....

I'd be amazed if there was anyone out there who thought price = quality.

I always thought price = rarity+popularity

plenty of rare and popular records out there which imo are shit and like you say plenty of common quality records as well

I don't DJ, but if i did i'd play Honey Child - Bobby Bland everytime (unless it cleared the dancefloor) £8 record.

Brilliant & undervalued yes - but underated !! No way. Everytime these kind of threads pop up this is ALWAYS mentioned. Or is it always just you Simon

I usually find its the quid bootfair records that fill the floor better than any of yer pricier items - doing it for me in the past - The Isley Brothers - That Lady, Harold Melvin - Where Are All My Friends, Jimmy Ruffin - Tell Me What You Want - or what about a bit of jazz to throw you off balance

# The Jimmy Ruffin record is kin' marvellous and only £5 Chess or maybe less on UK Polydor

- or what about a bit of jazz to throw you off balance

# I'm afraid Jazz is the only from of 'black' music I can't relate to -makes blood come out of my ears!

Sounds should be played because they are good full stop, rareity shouldnt have anything to do with it really, altho it is always nice to think that a choon you truly beleived in, that others might have overlooked, turns out to be hard to find once the demand is there. Dont get me wrong, I've paid big wedges for records, but there is nothing like finding a nice cheapie that turns out to be a winner.

Like Gav says they were all cheap once !.

I've always had faith in cheap records and I've always tried to feature cheap obtainable records in my sets. Not all a tenner like but quite a few under £30.

There are 1000's of cheap records out there, you just need the patience to trawl through them all.

With you all the way on this one! (it's got to be)

A few I've picked up for £10.00 or less in the resent past

George Jackson "that lonely night" Double R

The Dream Merchants "stop you're braking my heart" Renee

Lee Shot Williams "I like you're style" Shama

Betty Harris "show it" + "hook, line 'n' sinker" Sansu

In my book all good tunes and worth every penny.

Wasnt the "Memories" side the more popular in the past at venues? .

Cheap records are my main purchases these days.

Honey Cone -"if I cant fly"

Little Milton-"let me back in"

Billy Stewart-"what have I done"

are all £5 records that have pleasured my ears in the last few years

mind you I did buy a Basic Black and pearl "There will come a time "for $3.00 a while ago and it seems to have got really popular and has started to get silly price wise down to demand I suppose.Any of the cheapies we are talking about could rocket in price given exposure

Some of em were expensive first then went a lot cheaper

I think the price of a record is a statistic..period, although obviously an important one as far as peoples bank accounts are concerned, surely any self respecting collector/dj buys a record because he/she enjoys the sound that emits from the speakers. I'm certain there are folks in this scene of ours that do chase "Trophy" records, guess it's just a trait in some Human beings, the need to be seen with the most expensive record/car/house.etc, but hopefully the majority of vinyl collectors will buy a record based totally on musical merit, and of course that does include records where the price can reach 3 and 4 figures.

Ditto!>> Have A Look <<

The most I've ever spent on a record is £44, I just cannot justify spending large amounts of cash on records. :D . The dearest record on my playlist was £35 (inc postage), the cheapest £3 from a secondhand shop. But in all honesty I think the only time that price comes into it, is when people are selling stuff. Price doesn't always equal worth!

Another nice Intruders on back of Check Yourself - It Must Be Love, good dancer, about £15.

If record values had any relation to how good they are, how much would The Admirations - Dont Leave Me (about £15), be worth? Or hundreds of other quality "cheap" 45s!!
