Citizen P Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 " A Lovers Concerto" Mrs. Miller So bad it's f*ckin' brilliant. Tony
Guest Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 (edited) I remember Levine playing an alternate version of Cajun Hart`s "Got to find a way" about 10 years ago at a weekender and also on Searling`s Sunday show. He announced that it was a far superior version, no idea who it was but it was utter shite and an insult to the original. Edited April 11, 2011 by Guest

Benji Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 The apparently german-only version of Cliff Nobles "love is allright" by the Johnson Brothers is horrible. Complete talent-free singer with very amateur-ish backing. THAT makes your ear bleed. Will post it in RefoSoul soon far too many to metion spike but one i do keep hearing at the moment that makes my ears bleed is the instrumental to Lou Pride's - Im Comin Home In The Morn'un, drives me feckin bonkers You mean Southwind Symphony? I think that's a brilliant version. But as they say one man's Helen Shapiro is the other man's Lavern Banker I remember Levine playing an alternate version of Cajun Hart`s "Got to find a way" about 10 years ago at a weekender and also on Searling`s Sunday show. He announced that it was a far superior version, no idea who it was but it was utter shite and an insult to the original. Isn't the sh*te one the first and/or original version?
grant Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 You mean Southwind Symphony? I think that's a brilliant version. But as they say one man's Helen Shapiro is the other man's Lavern Banker yep thats it ...sounds like the Southwind Symphony were pished when they recorded it
Carol Phyllis Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 (edited) Anything by the California Raisins, they are my pet hate. Also, a song I picked up at a car boot, "Baby I Need Your Loving" by the Fourmost, (a 60S Merseybeat band) sounds worse than me on Karaoke and thats hard to beat !!! Not worth the 10p I paid for it thats for sure!!! Edited April 11, 2011 by Girl Dancer
Mike Lofthouse Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Just had a few(25) cd's given me just played I'll do anything Lenny gamble(aka Tony Blackburn) I think that this is the worst record that I have heard that is supposed to be a soul sound Over to you what's your nightmare? Spike Was it ever supposed to be a soul sound? thought it was only played (or given to be played) as a wind up ?
Guest Matt Male Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Was it ever supposed to be a soul sound? thought it was only played (or given to be played) as a wind up ? I agree Mike, no one ever claimed any of the records above are soul records. Plenty of non-soul played on the northern scene including Lenny Gamble. I don't think the original question makes any sense.

Windlesoul Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 (edited) .... and you can add Audrey Slo to that, but in reverse! Edited April 13, 2011 by mark w.
Pete S Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 onbe mans meat, I love Bill bush. tis ace to these ears. One man's meat indeed, Cajun Hart would be in any all time favourite top 30 I ever did. Used to be number 1 for a long time. Bill Bush is ok. Geoffrey Metliko is shocking. Helen Shapiro is fabulous.
Pete S Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Even Gerri Granger .......But can see where your comming from Especially Gerri Granger, f*cking awful record, always was, always will be.
Pete S Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I think Gerri Grainger is absolute perfection. It's just so dull.
Dave Moore Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 George Lemons - Fascinating Girl (Yip, a pure lemon!). Five Royales - Catch That Teardrop (Dirge) Tommy Navarro - I Cried My Life Away (Country AND Western!) When these are on it's fag break time, (and I don't even smoke!) Regards, Dave

Guest Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Well now the topic changed from covers to any old crap, i'll go with cath-e-drells .
Patto Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Anyone remember the Tragic cover of Bobby Diamond's ---Stop,by non other than Billy Diamond on Soul Stop label. Now that could equal Tony Blackburn any day
Guest Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 That cover of Just Bros sliced tomato's on disco demand takes some beating
Pete S Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 That cover of Just Bros sliced tomato's on disco demand takes some beating I thuink you just picked the winner! With Bok TO Bach on the B side I think. Also a terrible version of Tainted Love by The Jezebelles on the same label.
Tony Smith Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 (edited) I remember it well as being a Leighton Buzzard c/u as Tommy Hunt, awful record! Geoff Metaliko that is! Edited April 13, 2011 by Tony Smith
Impact Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Sharonettes- papa-mow-mow..........................ooh hideous tune, probably one of the worst "Northern soul" records ever
Rotherham Soul Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Cheryl Gray - You Don't Love Me Anymore (Aussie HMV) Ouch My ears hurt!!!!
spike1 Posted April 15, 2011 Author Posted April 15, 2011 I agree Mike, no one ever claimed any of the records above are soul records. Plenty of non-soul played on the northern scene including Lenny Gamble. I don't think the original question makes any sense. If it don't make any sense to you don't get involved
steve Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 The Sounds of Lancashire! got to agree with one, we had a DJ play this at one of our do's, me and Eddie Hubbard just looked at each other in horror
