Gene-r Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I do love Jamaican and US labels, mainly because of the imagination and design that goes into them. But here's a mystery to me. Joe Gibbs' Pressure Beat label from the early '70s. I've always been intrigued to know why Joe depicted cartoon characters such as Bugs Bunny on the label. Was he a fan of Looney Tunes / Merrie Melodies, or were they just put on there for the hell of it? Any ideas, anyone? I could bet a week's wages that permission was not sought to depict these cartoon characters!

Why should anyone need permission to to draw a rabbit and a cat ? they don't look like any cartoon characters i have ever seen.Yeh he just drew for the hell of it. and he wears Lacoste

Gene-r Posted April 7, 2011 Author Posted April 7, 2011 Your eye are painted on or what ? they aren't done very well then Yeh had a closer look, it is Bugs who's the other fella Maybe even his cousin, Pubic Hare!
Gene-r Posted April 7, 2011 Author Posted April 7, 2011 Sylvester (as in Tweety & Sylvester) but who's the crocodile? Ken made a good point about Lacoste after shave - maybe that's where it comes from Benji!
Soul-slider Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I know a lot of Jamaicans loved the Marvel superhero characters and there are labels including Spider-Man, The Thing and Hulk
Guest sharmo 1 Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I know what you meen about the lables have you seen the war lable with a swazsticker on it or the socialist lable with the hammer and scycle ?.As most Rastafarian beliefs stem from old testament/judaism you'll see the star of David on a lot of lables also Khabarlic symbols .These are in some case's thought to invoke good sales ect by using Devine powers some of the early lables have pictures of the arc of the covenant as it is believed to be in the possesion of Etheopean priests who are thought to be the possesors of the true knowledge of the Rastafari with Etheopia being the origin of the Rasta peoples. Also some of the lables have a hisorical meaning such as Big Ships refering to the European slave ships ect.there must be tens of thousands of designs ,Sy.
