Guest Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 (edited) Getting fed up with the people who abuse the paypal 'item not received' claims system. Sadly it seems the worst problems stem for France and Italy. This latest one has calimed via paypal for non-receipt of the records I posted them and despite having proof of postage etc etc there's no way to win due to how paypal makes their decisions. Normally I just take the hit but this guy not only is trying to rob me but at the same time is calling me a dishonest person! boogietimesrecords (ebay id and has their own website) I strongly advise all sellers to be very wary of this buyer who despite not receiving the records I sent him somehow knew what postal service I used (asked why didn't I send via signed for post, when I never mentioned what service I had posted them via) and also managed to sell the allegedly non-received 45s on his website....not sure how he managed to scan, record and sell something he never received, must be a very clever man. Record he bought was 5 copies of Bridget Cooper - Get Into The Love Groove - Birdie so I would love to hear from anyone who purchased one from his website, where they're now listed as out of stock: STOLEN FROM ME AND SOLD BY BOOGIETIMESRECORDS Edited March 27, 2011 by Guest
Girthdevon Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I have known and dealt with Phil at Boogie Times for well over 15 years and i'd be very surprised if he were trying it on with you. Sold him many records in the past....including copies of Bridget Cooper i'm sure. I would suspect the scan, and clip is not of one of your records....probably been up on his site for a long time. Of course, I cannot be 100% sure....just trying to give you the heads up that you may be jumping the gun and there is an honest explanation.... Gareth Hi Gareth, I very nearly sent you a PM asking if you had dealt with Phil as I suspected you might have done and if it turns out that I'm wrong then I'll be very happy to make a full apology to him. But I've got a certificate of postage for these from the PO so they either got lost in transit (which very rarely happens) or Phil has them and when he stated 'I don't understand why you did not send registered' when I had never mentioned if they had or not my first reaction is that he knows how I sent the package because he already has it. I'd rather not have put this in the public domain but his attitude towards me really p*ssed me off and I'm not going to lose my money and be insulted at the same time.

I've never had a problem with Phil either. I can't seem him having the time to do elaborate scams to be honest. He's a busy guy with a record label, website etc, etc so it just doesn't seem feasible that he try and rip someone for a few copies of a record. I'm sure there'll be a logical explanation..... Ian D
Harrogatesoul Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 . Does anyone know then, in a nutshell (and me not having to wade through a ton of small print) just what you have to do/prove to Paypal about shipping etc and NOT having the monies taken from you despite proof of postage etc. Does it have to be a signed for package to stand any chance? Didn't Darren(?) on here send that very expensive 45 via signed for yet the buyer conned him from the money? Seems to be a right awful minefield or is there a simple explanation?

Has to be sent by registered post that is trackable online and has to be sent to the address on the paypal payment which must be a confirmed address. If you send something to an unconfirmed address then it doesn't matter if it was hand delivered by god with photographic and video evidence to prove it you will still lose. So if a buyer has an unconfirmed address (which 30-40% do) you either take the risk or refuse their business. Ian....I hope you're right about a logical explanation, but Phil went straight to a paypal dispute without ever asking if I would refund him or send replacement copies (which I would have done cos I've got half a box of the record in question) then called me dishonest whilst claiming his ebay feedback of three thousand proved he was honest....guess my feedback of close to seven thousand with no negs makes me a crook.
Glynthornhill Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Adam - unfortunately the Ebay and Paypal system is weighted heavily in favour of the buyer - not the seller - I have experienced many problems with the Italian postal service , and now unfortunately have to insist on signed for international tracking to the country. They either get delayed heavily by customs clearance , or take a walk elsewhere All you can do in your defence if you believe you have been scammed is block the bidder / buyer from any future transactions... A sad reflection that approximately 5 % of buyers will scam - all I do now is build that possibility into my prices ...as usual a bad experience leaves a bitter taste - I got stung for £75 from France last year .. However Adam allways worth claiming compensation from Royal Mail International Claims based in Stoke - check website fill form in - you will at least get £41.00 compensation plus postage costs returned if you follow their instructions....
Guest Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 (edited) I NEVER ship eBay sales to France / Italy without insurance / tracking - hit after hit after hit over past 2 years tells me that the PO systems there are corrupt. No tracking = no sale - don't care who they are / how lovely the sale amount was / how high their FB is / was, I simply won't do it. Adam - I hope this pans out ok for you mate - I feel your pain - M Edited March 30, 2011 by Guest
phatspinner Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 The last 2 posts sum the issue up. You either take a chance, accepting that a proportion will be lost and build the costs in or simply refuse to sell the records witout all the safeguards ( eg registered, confirmed address etc being in place. ) I deal in cheaper end records and accept that if I insist on recorded delivery then I will lose the sale. Was very unhappy with paypal recently who have no regard whatsoever to your unblemished trading record and will rule against you in favour of any one who simply says they never received the parcel. What you have to say to yourself is "Is taking paypal and the extra business it brings worth the odd claim against and the subsequent loss ?" If the answer is yes then you have to take it on the chin. Galling I know but you get over it. I am currently sweating over a package that I have ordered which is overdue and I agreed to pay as a gift which, of course, gives me the opposite problem,- no comeback if it's never been sent.
