Guest Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Damn Dropped a 45 now its got a crack affecting first 30 secs or so : Any solutions it plays with a noticeable Click : Any tried and tested solutions ?
Cheapsiderecords Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I have always found not dropping them works best I did this very same thing with a Canadian Power Pop 45 I was just about to list on ebay last week. Big chunk out of the side.
Guest Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 If you can sacrifice the flip......find some very thin but rigid plastic, cut it to about 90% the size of the 45 and with a thin layer of Araldite, glue it onto the flipside. I did this with a Billy Thompson a few weeks ago and it plays perfect.
Dave Moore Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I've used an old fashioned razor blade and tape in the past. If it has a noticeable click already it'll be hard to eliminate though. Best, Dave
Mach Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 i did one 30yrs back on the flip with EVO stick and cardboard...still goin strong
Guest Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 yes flip can be sacrificed no probs ! Second person to suggest the razor blade Dave , few options to try but only one chance ! lol Cheers Lads !
Guest Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 1st thing chicken is to make sure you can get it to play fine on the main side and then try one of the said tips Then let us all know the outcome.
Guest enchantedrythm Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 sell them to me cheap-condition is of no importance -- im a '180 degree Rod Shard'
Prophonics 2029 Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 (edited) Have a very rare record broken in 2 and super glued it back in to one disc, if its a crack super glue it but make sure you have lined it up. Edited March 26, 2011 by Prophonics 2029
Funky 4 Corners Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 All of these solutions appear to fu*k the B side up, many decades ago I bought a James Barnett on Fame from Soul Bowl that had been super glued on the flip but JA didn't mention that - funny eh! If you are able to align the crack up so that it isn't audible, heat a needle that's held in a cork and using a magnifying glass I just very gently touch the edge of the disc to weld the end of the crack in place. Admittedly it is better on styrene 45s that have a square section edge.
Guest barrympls Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 If you have a rare record that's cracked, you can do a few things to fix it. If it a vinyl 45 and it's not warped, you can either tape the B side or glue the edge CAREFULLY to make sure the crack is as flat as possible. As far as the needle's concerned, a flattened crack is no worse than a deep scratch. If it's styrene, then do the same as above, but be careful what kind of glue you use. I have a couple of cracked records that I've never been able to find a replacement.
Paul Dunn Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 The best repair that I have found if the other side can be sacrifised is to use aluminium tape (you can get it from Maplin) it does not deteriorate over the years, I still have records I repaired using this tape from 20 years ago. Regards Paul
Geeselad Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 (edited) try a cocktail stick before a razor blade, work it into the groves or even play it with the cocktail stick, by rotating the deck. Edited April 11, 2011 by geeselad
