Just bought a copy of this on Ebay, and i wondered if it had ever been booted or re-pressed?

Joe Tex - You'd better believe it baby - White 'Dial' records.

Got it for £3.25, so not overly bothered if it is any of the aforementioned, just curious.

Joe Tex on Ebay

Thanks in advance!

This was distributed by Atlantic Records so it should have a "AT" marking in the deadwax. Also should indicate it's a promo on the label.

As the original is pretty common (lots of copies around) and only worth around a tenner it makes you wonder why they bothered bootlegging this at all!

Well I can answer that one - in the early part of 1978, Keith Minshull started playing this and it went absolutely massive as a revived oldie - soon Russ was playing it as well and for maybe 6 weeks it was one of the biggest sounds on the scene. Hence the bootlegs.

p.s. not all Atlantic pressings have AT in the run out, let alone Dial ones.

Yeah I remember this taking off for a short while Pete, could never understand it myself, think it was the intro & distinctive guitar rif that made it so popular.

Of course its just my opinion but was more of a rock track than soul to me, but loads of my mates were nuts on it too.

Did used to get some crazy tracks on in those days, possibly the worse one I can remember was 'Spiderman' i still get a headache thinking about that track, possibly the worse track i've ever heard at any soul venue? Russ was guity of some crimes in the later years.

Aid.

Just thought of another criminal (in my opinion)/ but very popular track that Russ used to play, Salt & Pepper Lou Edwards, talk about cheesy pop, but it was massive, think I was missing something....

Yeah that was horrible, it was by Esko Affair - didn't do much though did it?

That "Spiderman" record - I remember getting this in a collection I bought once and I had no idea what it was doing in there - I'd never heard it played or even heard of it - until you just mentioned it.

i was surprised spiderman got played............beat s good but those vocals!!!!.................was this as bad as mickey mouse concerto,,,,?>> now who played that one!!

Yeah, I hated it, but I had this mate Chris Hurley who was a fabulous dancer & he loved it, think it went with 'Riker' if you know what I mean, but it had absolutely nothing to do with soul music.

Wow, I did not know anyone had bothered booting this  I stand corrected.

Are you guys 100% sure it wasn't a legit variation, I have Dial 45s from the Atlantic era which are on both styrene & vinyl? I think the later post-Atlantic ones are only styrene??

Ha ha, just remembered the biggest sin of all.........The Wigan Joker, The Royal Vibes, he actually used to play this atrocity.

Hang on a bit though, the original Royal Vibes track, Russ only pulled this out on rare occasionas, I remember it being played at the 3rd and 4th anniversaries, this was the original MYLESTONES backing track with added Simon Soussan vibes, this was actually pretty good (booted as The Wigan Joker credited to the Royal Vibes) - then in 79 I think it was, he recorded a version himself called The Wigan Joker, which was, of course, dogsh*t.
