Guest Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 I know there has been a Rare Soul Weekender in the past but there isn't anything like that going on now. Will anyone be doing something along these lines in the future?

Steve G Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I'd love to see another Lifeline weekender. I thought they were excellent.
Guest Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I've attended a few foreign soul things but they just don't have the same vibe as one's here. Do you think there's enough interest to have another weekender of the rare ilk?
Chalky Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 There might be the interest for another Lifeline but it's finding the right venue with a decent amount of rooms at the right place and a gap in the calendar.
Guest Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Get looking then I'm left with a disenchanted feeling after the weekend I've just had and think a weekend full just of the music I want to hear would be a welcome turn around my soul corner.

Jumpinjoan Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Me too Me three! Not at Barnby Moor though please. Didn't like that venue at all. Somewhere nice and intimate and not too big would be great
Guest BIG H Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 this ones in November 2011, its taken 2 years of planning so i think should be a guid yin, especially the line up in the Soul Hole Harry

Guest cenco Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 WOULD LOVE TO GO TO ANOTHER LIFELINE WEEKENDER WAS THE BEST I'VE BEEN TO BY FAR
Guest soulmaguk Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Never really have got to grips with weekenders, I always have the notion that its for middle age people right from when I first started attending Rare Soul venues seriously in the 80s. I love the anonymity of an All-Nighter, one blast of the best records on the planet so far in one main darkened hall, cracking up in your space, then the tunes buzzing round your brain for the trip home next morning...nothing like it on Earth.
Guest Bearsy Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 shite idea but put me down for 2 tickets as long as its in blighty

Went to the one in Llandudno some years back, music was great but stuck in a smelly old hotel with the freezing wind battering the windows in the daytime,no thanks.
pikeys dog Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Thanks mate could've be worse, he coulda' said you smelled older.

You're right - the 7th Annual Hitsville When it was located in the U.S. this was a bit cost prohibitive for us, but really looking forward to our first Hitsville in Spain in September. - Kev.
Guest Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 soul essence.... Is that predominantly modern though? *shudder*
Guest alison Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) Is that predominantly modern though? *shudder* Are records 20/30/40 odd years old modern Karen ? SE has a very broad playlist. Edited March 15, 2011 by alison

Steve G Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 (edited) Much as I love it SouL Essence isn't really a rare soul weekender in the true northern sense of the word. It plays across the board, modern and deep as well as 60s and 70s and 80s and 90s and Y2K. And whilst some of the DJs do play rare soul, the weekend isn't built on that basis. Raremusicdirect Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 (edited) All for a Rare Soul Weekender myself, location must be everything for the promoter because numbers attending must be hard to judge ? I mean I wouldn't care if 20 turned up, but they might............... I don't think many, if any, of the Rare Soul styled nights I've attended have been absolutely jammed packed full (seems this element of Northern Soul is a rarer breed), so would such a Weekender at present draw enough for the sums to add up ? Surely it would have to lean towards a few rooms, one maybe playing current favourites to draw the crowd - a bit like many nights now that split with two rooms...........reversing the rooms or proportions.......... I'm all for it, because selfishly it would excite Edited March 16, 2011 by RareMusicDirect

'rare soul'
Guest Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I don't mind a mixture but not all modern stuff... my heart's well and truly in the gritty 6ts and early 70's
