I've noticed this too, and also a surprising amount of current-ish ska being used in programmes like 'Come Dine With Me'. I put it down to a soulie/skinhead/scooterist having a job in the department used for sourcing appropriate tunes?

On The Hairy Biker's programme last week , The Funk Brother's backing track to " I Was Made To Love Her " was used .
