Played this long before I ever saw a Phil LA of Soul Label.

Difficult to remember now, just how much we missed here in the U.K. back in the day.

Many Thanks to ALL Concerned, for bringing tracks like this to these shores.

They're at the birth of my collection.

Will be digging the Us Stuff out.....this was the first pile.

Superb as usual mate but this time I actually knew 90% of those!

Looking forward to the Direction label to see if you have a copy of the best release on the label: Mickey Finn - Garden Of My Mind!

Are they not all owned by the same CBS (Columbia Broadcasting System)?

From Wikipedia:

Columbia Records was a record label owned by CBS since 1938. In 1962, CBS launched CBS Records to market Columbia recordings outside North America. In 1966, CBS Records was made a separate subsidiary of Columbia Broadcasting System, Inc.

Wayne Gibson was a UK production, nothing to do with any US label: like I said, the Major Lance recordings were licensed to UK Columbia and the topic is UK CBS, which is why I mentioned it, no Major Lance Okeh recordings came out on UK CBS in the 60's.

The title of the thread is CBS/ Direction/ Epic (CBS subsidiaries). Columbia is a subsidiary of CBS is it not, exactly as Epic is a subsidiary of CBS. Still, no matter. I shall remove the offending items! tongue.gif

The EMI owned Columbia label had nothing to do with US Columbia or CBS, it just happened to license material from the US Columbia label. That's why the Major Lance releases on Columbia have nothing to do with the thread! That's all. Still like to see the scans!

A few more CBS including an early Pete Smith production...do you remember it Pete? and an early Ian Levine tailormade (Don Fardon demo)..........the Salena Jones is great. Will dig out some more. The Joe Benjamin is great and a uk black soul singer and produced by Rolf (bloody) Harris...my last copy went to Andy Lewis so maybe Weller will cover it....I couldn;t believe he did Tobacco Ash Sunday.Mickey Finn is far too nasty for here.. UPC was a subsiduary of CBS and recorded novelty records mostly...Barbara Windsor -what a Carry On etc but I know of 2 good sides Shakane-Find The Lady and this one.Love the logo on the Peaches And Herb....anyone know how many came out with this on.Looks as though they were going to run a soul series.

The 'known' record on UPC was by a band called Tikki Tacki Suzy Lies! Can't remember the title, might have been Dream Stealer, but it was played at The Torch or the Cats from what I was told.

Difficult to say how rare this one is, when I first got one over 20 years ago, it had only been seen twice I think, but a few more have emerged since, I've had it three times but two were the same copy. With the first one, I had a CBS press release saying that the record was to be delayed by two weeks, and a second press release to say that the record was now not to be released at all and any copies should be returned.

They were around in the 70's Pete. It was a big record for a few people back then so many more than two were around. I found one myself in Record & Tape exchange for 10p in the early 80's...........

They were all demos Ian. You might have had an issue but everyone else had demos.
