Mike Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 not seen talked about much somewhere in between the two other versions ?
Ady Croasdell Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Yes it's good but just a bit too slow in parts to get the dancefloor going. A very rockish voice too. Very interesting, i didn't know about it. Cheers Ady

Cheers Ady always had it in the back of mind that there was another version out there maybe from a 3am conversation somewhere recent thread made me have a look again this time round this lp showed up on spectropop the actual writer does give a fair bit of background on this along with a mention of yourself on this thread here However, Melba's Musicor session did take place in the spring of '66 and out of it came the single, "DON'T CRY, SING ALONG WITH THE MUSIC" written by Steve Duboff and Artie Kornfeld who were also on the K&R staff. Concurrently, Bob Keane of Mustang Records was in New York looking for songs for The Bobby Fuller Four. Charlie and Don played him Melba's demo and Keane took it back to Los Angeles with him for the band. Within days they had recorded an exciting single (with Barry White in the producer's chair) on "THE MAGIC TOUCH" that charted just a couple of weeks before Fuller's untimely death in July of '66. Whether the activity at Mustang Records impacted the decision at Musicor to hold back on Melba's version at the time remains unclear but certainly plausible. Later in '66, a third version of the song was recorded by Teddy Neeley (best remembered for his starring role in JESUS CHRIST, SUPERSTAR) for his Capitol Records album. https://launch.groups...p/message/46601
