I bought mine for a weeks wages on the balcony at wigan @ Spring time.'74, cost me a Hefty £4.50p, the robber wanted £5 for it

It was booted on look-a-like boots in the late 70s, think that go's for @ £15

It then came out on grapevine, think £5 will get you one

Mick Atherton showed me one about 20yrs ago. All the credits etc were typed as on the old typwriters. Don't know if this was the authentic issue or a demo or a test press but it sure looked fine. A yellow Washpan one would look a bit crappy next to it.

Maybe Butch or Dave Raistrick would have more info on this?

Regards

Kev

I have never seen a demo, omly yellow issues with the Nashville matrix stamped into the run out groove.

Come to think of it there are a lot of labels with the Nashville Matrix stamp, that do not have demos. Like Joe L?, Clara Hardy, Ronnie McNeir, to name a few, must be more?

make me a decent offer , i puchased mine from manships auction last year vg+ with reciept its the proper first issue ,im not sure or not weather i already listed it in the sales threads on here but made the mistake of adding it too an existing post that was already a week old

I first bought this on a pressing way back in the early days (70's),

I was fortunate enough to purchase an Original from Soul Bowl a couple of years later, the record captivates me to this day.

As already mentioned. AWESOME.

Absolutely awesome slice of pure Northern Soul. Everything absolutely perfect. Incredible song, impassioned Soulful vocals, perfect Northern dancefloor beat, brilliant Detroit production, great name, obscure Detroit label and mega mega rare from day one. Pretty much the perfect Northern Soul record.

God bless Kev Roberts for selling me the 2nd copy. £40 doesn't sound like much these days, but it was 4 weeks wages back in the day. I was never happier then when I was playing this record.

If I won the lottery, I wouldn't think twice about buying it back for £5K. It's seriously that good!

Dave Thorley's got one i think and being a dealer he might sell!!!!!

No he won't. Had one back in the 70's sold it for £50 late 70's. This one came out of a U.S. DJ collection that took me 10 years to get into, one of my all time fav's and now it just says Bamberg and Brad Hales (You had to be there to understand).

Kev,

Mick [unfortunately] is coming round on Monday. I will ask him about that as he appears never to have forgotten anything to do with records he has owned or seen and more surprisingly anything I've ever had or done which is a bit scarey in a stalker kinda way.

Ian,

I got a copy of the 45 in March '73 when I swapped it with a guy dj-ing in Hyde, near Stockport. Gave him Lenis Guess and I think Toni Lamarr for it. I remember exactly cos I worked at Global for a month then.

Give Mick my regards Rod and tell him I hope the Alzeimers doesn't get any worse. Mick had THE best collection ever to be played at The Alexander in the 80's. No doubt about that!

Best

Kev

I wonder how many copies are around? It's always been one of the rarer ones but I wouldn't have a clue as to how many have been dug out. 30? 50? 100? Can anyone make a calculated guess?

there is probably a few kickin around in collections usually in vg condition. ive never seen a minter ever. i got gilly`s old copy in the late 90`s for £200 one of the better copies ive seen and with it being a "tired oldie" huh.gif just never really appreciated it even though its a top oldie. i think i played it out once. swapped it along with cecil washington for a vivien carol on meben. certainly my biggest northern soul mistake up to now

i believe you'll find both grapevine release and the first bootleg attract decent prices ( between £30-50 dependant on who youre buying off ) this probably reflects the view that there cant be that many originals around...perhaps there are less than the 500 originals of bari track for instance?

I'd say mine was a Minter [EX definitely] more or less. No marks at all I can see. Not the copy I had in '73 though. Got it in the 90's for nowt really [$40 I think] and hardly played it since.

Patto, can't remember what they look like vinyl-wise etc compared to 70's boot but yes basically looks like the picture you put up. If yours is the 90's repress rather than 70's boot then definite [100%] repress by Gino Washington.

There are two sounds, melodies even, that take me straight back to the early Casino days. One is the guitar riff from Joe Hicks, but the other is the sound of those horns from the Tomangoes. great memories.

Does anyone else remember that Steve Caesar the awsome dancer used to take his dog to Wigan, but left it in his car/van. Half way through the night he used to go out to take it for a walk. The name of the dog was Tomango  .

There's one with Yvonne Vernee on the flip, is that a more recent boot than the 90s repress?

Its the Bass at the beginning that gets to me- sounds abit like that Guiness base advert where the horses are coming in like waves!

LOL, thats spot on.

Got a mint one off shifty back in the 90's. Think it was three hundred quid.

Best take the picture down as kens just dribbled on it.

funny double standards I have over boots, you can drive a bus through my logic but somehow a 70s boot of this tune that's so difficult to own doesn't seem so bad ass . . . . . . as long as you promise never never to play it out to a floor.

70 boot going through ebay now with 30 mins left

https://cgi.ebay.com/...=item4aa90581c1

currently £14

That was me selling it... went for £16 odd in the end. Surprises the shit out of me how much all the 70's boots go for nowadays. Kelly Garrett went for nearly £70 last week....

Posted

And that is a cheap price for 70's pressing unlucky on the price - sold one last year for £40 and then found another 7 days later sold at £68 - the vagaries of Ebay - never seen a 70s boot since....
