What Was The Best All-Dayer

Don't think All-Dayers were ever as good as All-Nighters.....can't give a definite reason why though....Maybe it wasn't as rebellious to take drugs, dance and lose the plot at 3pm as much as it was to do the same thing at 3am...

But anyway my top 3 (that's what l'm leading to.. yes.gif:D ) are

in 3....Wigan Casino...late 70's

in 2....Sleepless Nights,Dublin...now..

and in 1............

The Ritz.....70's,80's and the rest...

What do you think??

Yes Kev. Watson Hall and Locarno were great. Many happy memories. But for me Todmorden was the only one - it was like a nighter. So many faces from all over. Remember the coach from Cheltenham New Years Day in 81 - picked up at the King Teddy in Glos and a load more got on. Everyone was hung over but by the time we got to about Frankley the vibe had changed completely. Remember Jeff Leach, Sarah Buchanan and a load of the young Cheltenham crowd - made it for me, it wasn't about it's not as good as the Torch/VaVa's/ the Cats/Wigan blah blah - they were just up for it

I'd say Whitchurch Civic was probably my fave all-dayer, but remember a couple of occasions doing Yate All-niter by car, back to the'Port...."wash and brush up" then on the train to Birmingham Locarno All-Dayers.....and totally free from all things other than the music itself

I remember doing the odd 'dayer in the West Midlands and I'm sure one of them was Tiffany's Halesowen, whilst in Gloucestershire the superb Watson Hall in Tewkesbury.....albeit my very first couple of all-day soirees were courtesy of the Inter city soul club at Tiffany's Durdham Down in Bristol, and shortly after at the Stirling Suite at Yate........Great Great Days :D

Probably because it was the first proper Northern Soul event I ever went to, I have the Marshall Suite in Stroud as my fave alldayer.

Also went to a couple of tha later Locarno alldayers, Tewkesbury, Gloucester Leisure centre, and a great one in a posh hotel in Cheltenham (during the Stafford era).

I wish there were more now. Allnighters are great, but I am more happy dancing all day while feeling fine now, rather than hitting that 4am wall etc.

I think that was the Queens Hotel,(the posh one)... My favourite, Whitchurch with the bomb scare just when Levine played Linda Jones for "The very first time out" and we all had to go out

Steve

Agreed on that Whitchurch one Steve, on the Major's coach from Glos, and we all pushed off to the pub when the bomb scare happened...and yes, it was the Queen's Hotel in Chelt, think Pete French put that one on, deffo remember buying a Cindy Scott "I love you baby" Veep demo that day!

Was that Whitchurch all-dayer the one with that dodgy pop-soul band- The Real Thing!! from Liverpool on? Seem to remember going on train from Leeds via Manchester after an all-nighter at the Central so it would be early 70's I think. Took us forever to get there.

Brum Locarno for me no contest. :)

Interesting how all these places, Ritz, Tiffs and Locarno were all Mecca dancehalls. Seems like they had the alldayer scene sown up.

Same here, though I usually ended up in some sort of trouble.. Often a nice crowd of skinheads to offer help and advice on leaving the place too. Stafford Top Of The World had some good alldayers in 79 on alternate weeks to the Locarno, unfortunately I was arrested twice by the DS and decided it was probably not the best place for me to go after that.

 We were only young teenagers and not very tough and we got chased through the bullring from New Street and all the way to Hurst Street every time we went.

It was almost like the alldayer had paid the skinheads and punks as the pre-event entertainment. laugh.gif

St Ives

Abshot (one off) - biased, I know, but I'm proud to say that it's probably one of the best events ever held in the South!!!
